One last look back...the BRP runs along that ridge right there.....

Yep...growing right in the middle of the road...were they planted?

I rode back down then all the way up Moses Creek to the back side of the Wayehutta OHV wish I had gone to Ruff Butt instead....

There is/was a big piece of private land up here that has/had some cabins on it and I wondered if that road would be open?

Nope....even has a brad new forest service gate...looks like the road has been 'improved' too.

Looks to still be a bit illegal traffic over the back wall of the OHV

Back down and then up Caney Fork.....

Ruff Butt Rd still shows as open on the FS map but it's easy to miss from the road as you have to ride through this farm to get to it.

The creek crossing still looks the same as I remember it.

There was a truck parked just before the creek that had my access hindered, could have squeezed around him but it was getting late and I really didn't have time to climb all the way up to see where it now ends anyway....

So I went just back to Sugar Creek to see if I could still ride up to the waterfalls. Somebody looks to be setting up a hunting camp between the bridge and the creek crossing.

It's every bit as rocky and bumpy as I remember it.

...but the first switchback didn't look right to me.

Not only the hunting stand but the shape and width and steepness was all wrong....I went up anyway but it ended in about a 1/4 mile or so..

As it turned out the 'old road' should have continued on at least another 100 yards but it has been completely erased! Yep, that must be the line between private land and FS land as they pulled the mtn down onto the road and it's now all rugged and overgrown. I did manage to find a faint trail and walked out to the falls though.

There were some more trails/roads on the private side that are ungated and unposted but the shadows were getting long and I still had to ride back to the lake.

p.s. The 'Moonshine Mini Mart' doesn't look the same either.

Alas...the good ol days.....

After riding and hiking all day on Wed it felt kinda good to just take it easy around the house on Thu.

But a look at the forecast (that was darn near perfect for riding and camping) had me unable to resist a ride down to Georgia to check out the newly re-opened Two Wheels of Suches.

Just getting underway I see a familiar old shack has reappeared from under the kudzu....

Green River BBQ in Saluda is never a bad choice for lunch.

...and when has it ever been a bad idea to ride down the watershed?

Against my better judgment I decided to ride a loop through Helen....but thankfully the tourists hadn't shown up yet on this Friday afternoon.

Well...there may have been a few there already....

This actually looks worse than I remember!

If you like cheesy German/Swiss architectural copies...this is the place for you!

From there it was over the Richard Russel and Wolf Pen Gap into Suches.....there's NOT a bad way to get to Suches!

I was the only one in this field Friday but would have plenty of company Sat night. Actually there was a couple of other groups there Friday too, they just were camped in the next area over. A group of sportbikes that trailered up from Savanah and a group of guys from Knoxville on a couple GS's a DRZ and an old K-bike, they were good peeps and I hung out around the fire with them both nights.

Oh yeah...new bridges and a BIG new bath house (no pic of it)

Out for a Saturday morning spin.....

I could use a little gold!
