Sometimes it's just kinda fun to not really go anywhere.

Recap:

The Strom's radiator sprung a leak in the summer of '12 and I had it repaired last winter. It began leaking again this summer but not too bad so I've just been keeping an eye on the coolant level.

Upon getting back from my ride today I cleaned up the shop a little bit so I'd have room to work on it.....here's what I found.

The crack may actually extend from the old repair itself...hard for me to tell looks like some good tube between old and new crack though...maybe.

Here's a couple of pics first one before cleaning it off some.

It didn't appear to be leaking at or near the old repair though....

Guess I'll try to have it fixed again and get some opinions from a shop or two...a new one runs close to $500 last I checked so if this cracking continues taking a chance on a used one from ebay or something is likely the next option.

Yeh, for 500 bux, you would think they would last more than 130,000 miles.

I've had 100% good luck with used ebay parts.

Check out the price of a fan too.

Bike Bandit has jumped the shark with their prices. linky

I haven't called my local dealer but I'm curious if they'd try to soak ya for $700?

No 'good' ones on ebay right now...just 3 damaged ones that look worse than mine ranging in price from $100 to $200 linky

The 150$ new bent one looks like the ticket to me. Best offer deal... Could lowball and see. don't cost nothin to cast a line.

Irony is that there are a s-load of SV650 radiators... for really cheap too.

....but then you'd still have to pay to have it straightened...description said the mounts are bent too....

Quote:
Dented side and as picture both mounts have been bent.
I'm going to run it by a local shop here in just a little while and see what they say.....

Are you sure you didn't search for Ducati or BMW DL650?
Could be your problem.

Good luck!!

The cost of a new rad and fan could be, possibly, 20-25% of a mid-mileage, used Wee.

That's what I keep coming back to with my bikes..... For the cost of 4 main wiring harnesses I could have a whole bike with 15K on it....
Ain't even right.

Now you see why insurance companies write off bikes as a total loss that only appear to be scratched up a little. Had I contacted my ins co after that little lowside at RDV it's quite possible that's what they would have done...but no what do I do? Buy a new turn signal lens and bulb and keep on riding.

Well I did get a little ride in this afternoon....loaded that radiator into the giant trunk of the pig and headed out to chat with a couple of local shops. First stop was at my neighbor's house as I seen him sitting out in his shop. This is the guy that builds stuff, all kinds of stuff from choppers to dune buggies to boats to guitars to.....you name it.

He had just finished up this double neck cigar box slide guitar and was taking it for a test drive.

No love from any of the radiator shops I went to....they've all moved on to either big industrial stuff or general car repair....best any would do is 'plasti-weld' the thing so I suppose that I'll call up the guy that fixed it last winter and see about shipping it off again.

The only shed pic I took today was of my own woodshed.

What a filthy mess this is! Guess I better roll it out of the shed and hose it off before checking the valves or anything.

That thing actually sounded pretty good, here he is just making some noise...the amp is a tiny practice one and it's behind the bench facing away from the camera.

He made most all of it from scratch/scraps...the bridge is just a strip of aluminum.
