Fingers crossed that both sites stay up now

Grandfather Mtn as seen from Canyons...looking into bad afternoon lighting,

We weren't willing to go back into that traffic so we rolled down 321 instead....then turned back towards the base of Brown Mtn before hitting all the stoplights.

321

...an alternate parallel.

'the pig' aint skeered of a few marbles

I hear you, rode into Blowing Rock once by mistake... never again (it's a nuthouse)

ROBBLE rode out to my place on Thursday morning to join me for a back roads route up to Hot Springs. I have not done much 'rugged' dual sporting lately and wanted to take advantage of being in an area that still has some available...so I loaded up the old DR650 and away we went.

We rode up Apple Rd into the park and there was just a hint fall color here and there.

....a little bit more color closer to the hills....

A low pressure system was still moving out of the area on Thursday morning leaving a possibility of snow at higher elevations.

We weren't skeered and headed for Mount Mitchell via Curtis Creek.

Peak color and no traffic!

Mount Mitchell is up there 'under' that cloud.

A few misc overlooks along the BRP

My guess was that everything under that cloud was covered in 'hoarfrost' I asked ROBBLE if he wanted to go see it.....and he said yes!

Are we sure that we want to do this?

Those old folks have the top down....how bad could it be?

Now that we had paid homage to the frost there was the hope that it would once again be sunnier and warmer as we rode South on the parkway.

It wasn't. The next 10 or 12 miles down through Craggy Gardens was frosted over as well.

But you could see sunshine on the hills just below.....

We rode down the mountain on gravel from Craggy leaving the frost behind for the rest of the weekend! ...well, almost..but I didn't go outside in the mornings until it melted.

The ride down was just as nice as the ride up had been.

This shot makes me dizzy

......misc 'fly-by' colors......

Rick's cabin is over yonder there somewheres

His infamous driveway

I rode it one handed with the shutter clicking just so you could see that the rumors are pretty much just rumors.

No big deal, right?

This part might be classified as steeper than it looks.

We made it!...and NO rain or snow!

ROBBLE's secret identity revealed.

Mike Rowe was there doing the 'dirty work'

Looking back down the drive.....

Another view from the yard....

Just getting things ready for a little shindig.

Well Thursday night turned into Friday morning just like it always does and once we had some breakfast and the sun had melted the frost it was deemed to be safe to go for a ride!

PARTY BOSS™ asked me if I could lead a ride on Friday as KTMike would be leading a twisty street ride on Saturday. I think that mine was supposed to be a paved ride too but I misunderstood and made it an easy gravel/back roads route.

Nice day to ride up Hurricane Gap to the Rich Mtn fire tower though.

Hurricane Gap is an easy gravel FR...not to be confused with the rough FR of a similar name, Hurricane Creek.

A few shots from the tower.....

It seemed to me that the colors were brighter down under the canopy on the FRs than they appeared to be when viewed from above like this.

That little path near the bikes is the Appalachian Trail.

Once we got down the mtn Rick led us into town for some lunch.

After lunch we made a run up FR 209 (not to be confused with NC 209) are you confused yet?

My partners in crime for the day....PARTY BOSS™, ROBBLE and Mike Rowe.

Then just a quick run up TN 107 and over Lone Pine Gap to Paint Rock.

It really did turn into a beautiful afternoon.
