One side of the main hwy through town was blocked for the parade....

I was sure glad to see that the crime dog nabbed that old rascal of a grinch after seeing what he had done to that house earlier!

And really, who can resist a wagon load of drunk santas?

...and just like that the party's over and it's time to grab the little ones and hit the road.

I know you have a thing for dirty nuns right?

Those parade pix remind me that Daytona is a not so wholesome place.

Cool pics! Gotta love the South. I'm livin' too far south and beginning to hate it.

Anyone have a good guess as to whether this hound is a Catahoula Leopard Hound, or a Blue Heeler?

looks like a heeler to me (much stockier body than a catahoula)

Yeah there's nothing like small town living...actually I live just a few miles outside of that small town which is even better.

Not sure about the pooch Her sign mentions 'rescue' so it may even be a mixed breed..

p.s. the nun looks like she could use a sammich.

btw....I got a new toy this past week.

The first shot I took with it was of the trusty 'ol 590 it's replacing.

Over 14,000 shots have come out of that one and it still works fine mechanically in spite of the battery door being velcro'd in place....

But unfortunately it has succumbed to the abuse of being held up out in the wind taking shots 'on the fly' and multiple dust spot have found their way into the lens stack.....

I rode down to Historic Brattonsville this afternoon and played with the new camera some...upload in progress.

So far so good

It's a step above the old one in about every category...bigger lens, higher res, better zoom....but since it's the same brand the buttons and menus are very similar and also like the old one, all settings can be adjusted manually if you like, although I used automatic settings for most of today's shots.

First thing to catch my eye this afternoon was an old shed, isn't that a surprise!

btw...these are straight from the camera, I haven't even bothered to crop anything.....

Not at full zoom but....taken from the same spot as the one above in 'landscape' mode.

...has a few blown out spots that could benefit from some post processing...

Just a few miles South is the site of another Revolutionary War battle field.

Ol' Huck was a Loyalist to the King of England and he came to this area with the intention of snuffing out American Patriot Col. Bratton. He wasn't too sneaky about it and showed up on the steps of the Bratton plantation to find that the good Col. was not at home. Mrs. Bratton was able to get word to her husband and that allowed him to ambush Huck's camp in the early morning hours and make quick work of the Loyalist camp.

I don't believe that Hightower Hall had built yet though......

There is plenty of info about this area known as Brattonsville online. It's one of the oldest colonial settlements of inland South Carolina...if not the oldest.

Portions of the movie "The Patriot" starring Mel Gibson were filmed here.

In fact the character he played could have easily been modeled after Col. Bratton. Some of the battle scenes were also filmed on nearby farmland.
