14 days - Western TAT for 5

Here we go... 5 Seattle Dual-Sporters rolling for 14 days through the Western TAT. Thank you TAT master Sam for your guidance, roll charts and maps. Our planning has been completed over the past 3 months, and the bikes are loaded and leave today for Denver. Our 14 days of riding will begin in the Mile High city and head south on the CD route, quickly hooking up with the TAT at Trinidad. Epic riding, views and adventure are sure to follow through the high routes of the Rocky Mountains and the Desert lands of Utah and Nevada.

The hardware: 1 each KTM 950 SE, 3 each KTM 640 ADV, and 1 each KLR 650

The riders: Led by mulit-time C.D. finishers and experienced North American Dual Sporters Mike R. "all about the ride" and two wheel "map man" Mike F. "Certified mechanics" Paul V. and Mike S. Photographed and documented by Marc M. "cat-failure".

Thumb Bam! One man down and out

Only a day into the exercise and we have lost a rider due to some health issues. So this just became a KTM only ride... that damn KLR was gonna slow us down anyway!

Mike F., good luck with your health program and we will ride again with you soon brother

Machine shots

Below are a couple of the bikes on this TAT ride. Yes, that is the Pacific Ocean, this shot is from a shakedown cruise two months ago. We got chased off the beach shortly after this shot was taken by the local fuzz. My 2003 Silver KTM has just over 22,000 mile on it. I purchased it from a guy who rode primarily on the road, and dolled her up with lots of TourTech hardware. The key upgrade was a pumper carb with Akrapovic exhaust and a Riches saddle... Ahhh.... comfortable. Pauls KTM is a fresh 2007 640 with a clean pedigree.

If you hit Trinidad about meal time, try the Diner. It is just North of downtown. It looks like it is about to fall down. It is bad enough that I started not to go in.
The food is GREAT . Don't let the building fool you!

Do you guys have Coyotes? The Great Basin is significantly bigger and fits all those bikes. But it ain't gonna snow - take less stuff - bike rides better - you have more fun!

We leave from Trinidad on Sept. 10, so keep the dust down and have a great time. We were planning on going all the way to the Oregon coast, but alas, that repeating theme in life, you know the one about a job, keeps getting in our way. Looks like we will have to stop in Nevada somewhere, we will do about 8 days of riding.

We too, are looking forward to this RR.
