Niko, along the lines of registering the moto (remember i went thru similar with my R90S/6):

-is the bike originally titled and registered in our home state? if so, that's good.
-you will pay penalties if registration/transfer didn't occur within 10-12 days (something of the sort) of purchase (based on date on title, maybe it's not even dated?)
-i was under the impression that only out of state motos required inspection, at least my two out of state bikes did, but not any of the others.
-if they do require an inspection, then be ready to show the matching vin#, and possibly??? the engine number (at least that was the case on my out of state/R90S situation)
-i first went to the DMV on foot to initiate the process, it is at that time that they told me an inspection would be required, and like the other poster mentioned, they'd issue you a temporary registration which allows you to operate the moto for a certain time period.
-i'm sure you're going to do this, but make sure that your dad accompany you to said visits.

be well, and continued happiness and success around the build, it looks great! next time down here you're going to have to teach me a few (if not a bunch) more things.

uncle O

Originally the bike is titled from Texas making the bike out of state. Dad never transferred the title when he purchased the bike. He only extracted a temp op permit, and never took the bike to be inspected by the DMV (so they could issue reg based on matching VIN's)

All true, and not looking forward to it.

Yes, out of state bikes, or bikes that have disappeared from the state's registry need to be brought by the DMV to pass a VIN inspection.

All three (Frame, Frame Tag, Engine) are matching and extremely visible. So we shouldn't have a problem there

I've been on his case since day 1, pulling my hair out asking why, why he never finalized the transaction with the CA DMV

Unfortunately because his signature is on everything, he's gotta take care of this mess. With me standing over his shoulder.

However, I am a little unnerved by the fact that when my dad originally purchased the bike back in 2000, he still to this day hasn't transfered the title. Im really hoping there isn't going to be anything interesting to deal with.
Im already expecting some nice penalties.....
Hmmm. So he had a signed pink, but never formally registered it? Hmmm... Did the registration already have a PNO status before he got the pink? If it was PNO at that time it should be no problem. Good luck!

Thankfully I had the powder coater tape off the vin, its crystal clear.
Ha, That's great. I wasn't so lucky. I thought it'd be ok, but my powder coater believes in 2 coats for durability, but that second coat made them barely readable. Oh well, live and learn. :-(

Oops... I see you already had more to say about this... I was stuck back on your old response. Fingers crossed for ya!

later,

Thanks, I actually think the bike was in running condition which might make me so lucky as to inherit late reg fees....

However, I was talking to a gentlemen that mentioned to me that if I'm somehow able to articulate to the person at the DMV that the vehicle has been inop since it came to cali. I might be able to get away with a PNO status

Nonetheless, my main focus is getting the bike done. I want it finished. Its been a little (week) over a year since I started, and I need to see it complete.

I need some FRIGGEN' CLOSURE!

Soooo, what happens when you come home from work, take a nap, wake up at 11pm, and see these by your doorstep?

Ya do exactly what I did and tear into em'

Sometime during my slumber, the magical UPS fairy dropped off some eagerly awaited throttle and clutch cables from the guys over at Motion Pro, and MaxBMW

Preston Landers is the guy you want to talk to if you're thinking about getting some custom cables made. Really, really fantastic job. All that was required on my part were the original stock cables and controls, along with the new aftermarket stuff I got and.......

BAM!

Got a new bulb from Max.... so nice to have a low beam again

Something I really like about the switches I bought is that it has its own little built in high-beam indicator LED; Looks great at night

I think I have the most ever packages scheduled to arrive known to man... at my house sometime next week.

Lot's o' goodies.

Maybe a start up next week?

Anyways..... its late, gotta wake up at 5 today

Nice Job K-B

Did you get your throttle kit, levers, and controls on both sides of the handle bar from Motion Pro as well? What brand? I'm in the process of putting a Frankenbeemer and will looking for some control sets soon.

Actually, apart from the cables, everything's separate.

Throttle: Domino (twin-pull quick action throttle to be specific)
Clutch: DimeCity Cycles (oem clutch lever?)
Brake MC: Nissin 19mm radial Master Cylinder
Grips: Pro grip (also from DimeCity)

Both the left and right control switches were also purchased from DimeCity... They're just oem control switches. Really simple to wire

Hope this helps!
