I passed your test (barely) but I still have to get myself up to Kyle's standards. I probably need to bring a filter and five quarts of oil....

What are you talking about? The DRZ is a big bike.

I don't know if I would have made it through that bear track on my Versys. I don't even have a skidplate.

I got out after lunch today. Maple Sally was prime. Almost as good as pavement.

A cool field of clover near the top of the Gragg Prong.

A bunch of deadfall stopped my progress here.

Looking down the Gragg Prong.

Pilot Ridge

Lots of law enforcement out there today. I passed two USFS enforcement rigs, one Park Service speed trap, and a NC Wildlife rig.

Also, Old 105 is in tough shape. It's completely passable but there are some washouts that appear out of nowhere.

Fish Hatchery Road bridge got knocked out by the floods.

Rick's Rendezvous was a great time. I took my camping stuff over on Tuesday evening. I managed to wiggle out of school a few minutes early on Wednesday. The weather was great.

The Laurel Fork of the Doe is an epic location.

Thursday's ride was to Buffalo Mountain ATV trail. Very fun. But first, Dennis Cove Road.

This bike got a little damp, so he decided to air it out.

Sometimes I really miss my old pal Clifford.

This track had promise, but it fizzled out.

I got into a bit of a sticky spot failing to top out here. Nice photo opportunity.

That's all I have from Thursday. Good ride! Great people to hang out with. More to follow later.

I was anxious to get to do GlennR's ride on Friday. NC Rick just about got his head ripped off by some greenbrier.

I think I got tangled up in the same vine.

Stone Mountain is an epic venue that allowed us to get our climb on. Some of them were tough.

Like this one, for example.

Up to the top of the ridge, then along the ridge, then back down (Golly, I hope we don't have to go back up this!), then back up.

Just when you thought you had made the steep part...

This hill was great. No mystery or surprises involved.

Down again.

Then up.

The north end of Stone Mtn.

Then down, down.

Luckily, there wasn't too much of this. There was more if you wanted it.

In spite of the lack of traction, he gets the front wheel off the ground for the slick ass log crossing.

E.P.I.C.

We parted ways at the state line near the north end. I went over North Fork into Sugar Grove --> Mast Gap --> 194 --> Hickory Nut Gap (Leaners Count) --> Goose Hollow --> Jonas Ridge --> 181 to the house. Showered and got the Versys for a run back over to Dennis Cove, which I slabbed. The pork chops were delightful.

Hey! I count on this blog for updates! What's been going on? Did you make it to Blountville to the races?

OK OK OK! Work has been a bit consuming the past week.

Last weekend we drove to Sequatchie, Tennessee to witness world championship trials. These guys are off the hook with where they can ride a motorcycle.

If you stayed to the right on this one....

In kayaking, splatting an undercut is bad, bad, bad.

This machine tried to take apart the Cumberland Plateau.

Section 9 was ridiculous. Layla and I looked at each other in disbelief.

The first wave of pros declined this move or 5ed it. Bou made it look easy. So did Fujinami. Take note of where he is going over the top.

Here is why I am an Adam Raga fan. He didn't get enough pop to go over the top. While still sort of on the vertical face, he bounced his rear wheel over to the depression and then squirted out of there. All in a few hundreths of a second.

Section 11 also had some crazy splats. From the top.

From the bottom.

So this trip also included camping at the "Scooby Doo" campground that isn't open any more.

And I would have gotten away with it if it hadn't been for you meddling kids!

Lucky bagged out on me today. Layla went to Pisgah to ride her bicycle. I was on it by 7:00 a.m.

Carrots are divine. You buy a dozen for a dime. It's magic.

I usually avoid NC 105 and Valle Crucis on two wheels, but today it worked out OK.

What do you do in Sugar Grove? Georges Gap.

Beaverdam/Bulldog then a session on the Snake. I saw Bristol Motor Speedway.

The 450s go first. They race on Saturday.

Who has time to jump off of all three jumps? Just jump the first and skip the other two.

Villopoto is the man. Barcia passed him on the first lap for a little bit, but then Ryan took off.

So is Dungey.

That's all I have loaded up for now. Clouds make a nice background for motorcycles and people, no?

Great shots of the races! Some of that trials action is TOO MUCH!!!! Impossible just doesn't seem to enter in to their minds. Who looks at a 20' sheer rock wall and thinks I can climb that on my motorcycle?
Loved all the photos, but I have a soft spot for MX... :)
Love the front line in the holeshot that RV must have gotten. I haven't watched it yet so thanks for no spoilers

Nice to meet you at the RDV! I enjoyed our all too short conversation.

Thanks!

Roczen was on it in the first 250 moto.

Some of the 250 guys didn't have quite the boost to make the top of the third jump on the huge uphill triple. The horizontal component of their trajectory, however, was as fresh as the moment they left the ground. #43 here is about to land pretty hard on the front face.

I didn't see anyone fall here, though.

Lining up the second 450 moto.

Barcia roosts Dungey for a while.

Dungey roosts Barcia for a while.

I hope you get Fuel. Both second motos had good racing and made the entrance fee worth it.

Marvin Musquin had a good run in the 250s.

I got back to my bike and it had been tipped over. Someone picked it up. Apparently the bike next to mine tipped over and knocked mine over. Lesson learned. Don't park so close to someone.

I found the back way out of there pretty easily. I have finally made it to Ridgewood.

I went home through Elizabethon and Newland. Not as much fun as 421 but pretty and the heat of the day had broken.

I had a sleepwalking incident (I think) that left me a bit busted up this morning. It's a bit disturbing.

Thanks for looking.

Great photos of both venues! Wish I could have been there, especially since the motocross was right in my front yard!
