A good way to start off the day: steel cut oats with Kyle B brand apples.

Because today is a snow day.

I worked on vocabulary lessons pretty much until lunch. Then I went to the schoolhouse to get some organizing done. Next month is gonna suck.

I was needlessly afraid that things would get mushy.

Blair Witch is still a viable trail. They logged the area over the summer but the trail was the border of the logged area. The Chair was not as fortunate. Seen 'em come; seen 'em go.

The Well, open for business again.

Go ahead and look closely for footprints. You won't find any. Clean ride.

This was the end of the line. I retreated and loaded up and headed back to house. Another snow day tomorrow.

You must just hate those snow days!
You seem to always make the best of any weather conditions.
Glad you're enjoying the dried fruit

These 250s look better and better.

I have a hunch about this place.

The hunch will have to wait. We headed over to the transfer station to see what lies behind Door #2. Doors 1 and 3 have become somewhat boring.

A small scale agricultural operation, no doubt.

It looks like the hunch will have to wait longer than I anticipated as we are supposed to get slammed with snow.

This snow was no good. I couldn't even do the neighborhood loop. Too slushy.

Another trip to the Pigeon and French Broad. We just keep finding neat places to ride over there. We unloaded at Harmon Den and climbed to Max Patch and kept going. Right past the houses, I saw what looked like a dog. It was running like a dog, moving both front legs and both back legs at the same time, as it zig-zagged down the road. It did two circles in front of me when I saw was a big cat, maybe 25-30 pounds. Then it did a Mandrake into the rhododendrons.

What makes some people happy? A jug handle of Jack Daniels and mud pit.

Anyone need a large log of cherry?

It is grouse season.

There was water everywhere, but the trail surface wasn't too bad.

We came upon a small settlement of cabins in various degrees of dilapidation. This structure looks like it was for animals. Did someone really live out here?

We ended up more or less where we had started, and whom should we encounter? Cuttle and _anatic!

With those smooth road tires, it's a good idea to hit the creek crossing with a little speed.

My pictures of the falls are a bust. Here comes _anatic.

Good thing Cuttle has a whale foreskin suit.

We were feeling the call of home, so we hightailed it back to the truck.

Tons of people in Hurricane. Max Patch was also a zoo. It was a nice day to be outside.

As high as the top crossings were, I was a bit tense about this one, but the bottom is cleared out.

Layla bought a new stick. It arrived this morning.

Her boat exploded yesterday, but her weld held. I have never seen a boat break quite so spectacularly. Luckily, that happened one bailing from the takeout.

I'm not familiar, what causes the boat to break like that? Other than crashing into a rock.

Hey GG! You southerners are making me jealous.
Bet that water was warm. Parts of my body were retreating just looking at the photos.

That particular boat supposedly came from a batch made before they got the plastic right. That is a weird spot for it to break as well. it looks like she hooked it on something when it broke?? Usually it's rocks that do that.

thanks again for the shots!
and I wasn't worried about the water - I was worried about getting good grip on the wet dirt incline on the exit...

and it's more fun this way

I'm dead. That Werner paddle is now officially the most badass rig in the garage.
