We only have so many weeks to get a cold ass, low angle light ride in, so time to get crackin'. I rode to and from work today, so I wasn't buying Mr. Blue Sky's story. I still froze my giblets off.

Corpening Bridge

We did not see a single soul in Wilson Creek or in John's River.

If you're considering Grandfather gravel, the county roads have been graded, and tons of gravel has been dumped on them in the last few days.

Sounds like the place to test your "float" skills!

Everybody's heard that the bird is the word. We unloaded at Waterville and immediately did the full Snowbird Tour, including the north side of Grassy Fork.

This did dump us out on the Gulf, but if a gate that is normally locked had been locked, it wouldn't have been as convenient.

Not knowing that, we pressed on.

Sometimes this is a good sign. This same sign was the end of the line on Hurricane.

It's fun finding out.

We followed one simple rule: W W OB D?

The cows in the field at the bottom of this logging operation were straight out of the muppet show. I regret not taking their picture. The farm that did allow us nonretreating access had some crazy goats.

We came across a gate that was open. W W OB D?

That was not open a few weekends ago. Over Mountain lives up to its billing and brings you to Toms Creek.

Then Mulberry Gap and Wolf Creek.

There was a parade of ADV bikes heading the other way. Was there some sort of rally over here?

So be careful.

Drifting conditions were prime on this section.

The leaves will be back soon. Get it while you can.

Now we're on the main road, so watch for oncoming traffic, OK?

I enjoy a good run down the Gulf Road.

Mount Sterling

Thanks for looking!

Nice action shots, Phil. Is the Daffodil pic from last year?

They are from yesterday. Waterville daffodils are ahead of us here in the piedmont.

I should say so, I don't think I've even seen any starting to poke up yet. They probably wouldn't like the weather the next couple of days anyway.

Good stuff Gaston!

I miss riding.

....but the daffodils have been in bloom at my house for over a week now.
(not looking forward to winter's return today though)

I can stop going to Harmon Den any time I want to. I just don't want to right now.

We got separated pretty much first thing. Luckily, our sweep and I worked out the first section of the day, so we regrouped at the top of Snowbird.

One of the weirdest things to ever happen to me was having this vine wound up in my rear wheel. It stopped me dead and lifted the rear wheel off the ground. Good thing I didn't pull down the tree.

This was not the last time teamwork would be needed.

We have been entertaining ourselves by finding our way in reverse. We came upon a decision point. We had been coming from the left. To the right, ???? Let's go find out.

I'll spare you the details of what happened there. Let's just say we made it.

This is much more enjoyable and doesn't involve white knuckle terror.

It was pretty dark when we got back to camp.

With the tops of the mountains white, who wouldn't go for a run up Snowbird? I mean, how hard could it be?

Riding the high lines was very difficult. Riding the bottom of the ruts was also difficult.

Onward and upward!

16 miles in 3.5 hours.
