I´m looking at a 650RSE that seller sells as a 1993 bike, althro I think its a 1991 bike acording to the colors it has. Anyway, it has done just 8000kms!
Its almost like new, still has stock front tire and no rust on the stock headers.
What do bothers me is that a friend that has 3 of them, all 1990 and 1991 models whit a kick start. All has sufferd from that the head cracks betwen sparkplug and valve. He says this will happen to all pre 1996 bikes.
Really? Can someone confirm this?

I've heard of this but it is very rare. Has your friend really cracked THREE heads?! If so, that man should buy a lottery ticket because he must have run out of of his bad luck.

I'd say go for it! Just check the bike before buying it, if it's in general good condition the motor should be as well.

I had a 1992 R and it had almost 60000kms and motor was fine. Only had to do a piston change during the years I had it.

New drivetrain

Look at my new flashy bling. 16/42 JT sprockets and o-ring chain. Also added retaining plate and urethane(?) o-ring. Thanks Ladder106.

Next up...valve adjustment. Spring is almost here. (sort of)

No pics

With the cracked heads, usually excessive heat will do that. Does he ride in mud then leave the fins caked with it? Does he run it at high rpms with no regard to what it does to the motor. Often these "issues" that come up with this brand, that model/year ect usually can be avoided with common care for the motor.
example=A motor that tends to break gears can live a long life by faithfully using the clutch, no downshifting without it, or using the brakes to slow down rather than the motor. Not always popping wheelies ,which puts a shock load on the gears. Simple stuff can eliminate many problems(or stave off for a long time) even if it is a legit issue.

I'm using Skydrive to embed pics because it's free. I'm not doing it right or something though.

Your photo came through just fine for me. Clicking on it took me to the Skydive site and I could even enlarge the photo one time.

Sprockets and chain look correct. Slack looks good too....nice job.

Hopefully the bike will feel lots smoother with everything back to normal.

My browser just shows a white square , can't click on it or nothing. It is in a format that only certain browsers/systems can read it. Does the hosting site have multiple options for links? I use copy and paste which brings the pics right on this site instead of using a link to the pic.

I don't have the ability to attach or cut and paste apparently within ADV. I'm guessing I need to post more to get to that status. Skydrive is cheap (free) and only allows pics to be "embedded" one way.

Thanks, me too. I'm going to take it in the snow tomorrow (Just fell overnight) to test everything. Never mind about spring.

I use ImageShack .

I switched to my other browser , Google Chrome , and I can now see your pictures. Different browsers use different formats. The whole layout is different.

That rear tire, is it a Kenda 271 or Shrinko 244? I have some off brand tire with their version of that tread pattern that came on a bike I bought and it is doing remarkably good on ice/snow. I'm running at 12psi.

I think Bridgestone and IRC also have a version.

Kenda. My second in 11,000 miles. They're cheap and work very well for a 50/50. I was a little higher on the psi today but it still worked well.

Just picked up a 95 dr650 and its starting to look like it is a bit hard finding parts for it in comparison to my other bike.

Board search isn't working and Google is slightly failing me.

Any good sites out there that have pre 96 parts? I have a good few parts that need to be fixed or replaced.
