New day, new ride. The Delta Ride. I've missed this one for years, not this time. Started out 6:30 for the meet up some 80 miles away. Boring interstate, although the clouds look interesting.

Hitting the bridge...

About 50 miles into it, a loud winding noise starts up. The tach starts bouncing and goes to 8K rpms! I think if the engine did that, it'll blow the bottom end out! These were kind of known to be weak race engines. While the tach goes crazy, the fuel gauge indicator gets to mimicking the tach, flicking this way and that, full to empty. Then the needle disappears completely wth? About this time, I'm thinking I should really pull over and disconnect the tach cable before something really weird happens Oops, now the tach needle just disappears too. So I pull over and disconnect the cable, too late.

Guess the vibration was too much for it, anybody got one of these laying around?

I make it to the rendezvous point on time.

A quick briefing and off we go towards the Antioch Bridge. No, that's not the bridge...

Got's to pay the man! $5 and we're on the bridge, always important to have a paper clip hold your money so you can pay quickly and be on your way, you don't want to be "That guy...."

The Delta follows the Sacramento River and meanders along with many drawbridges. The river is very high with all the rains we've been having and the snow levels the highest in many years

We have another meeting place in Rio Vista with another group and cross another bridge.

This KLR rider came all the way from Sparks Nevada to join us.

Check out his penny tech back rest, give you an "attaboy" if you can guess where he got it from...

There must have been twenty of us by now and we hit the road. The Mini Club must be out cruising around as well. Too bad I didn't catch the bulk of them in the photo.

Check out the windmills, hope they're helping the grid! They really are huge.

Photo op! Sorry for the blur on the right side, a bug splattered on my lens and didn't catch it until I downloaded the photos.

Ok, saddle up we've got a train to catch!

This is out west, where "men are men and sheep are scared!" Look at them run from us!

We get to our next location and line up, pretty impressive machinery!

Here we are...all Electric Train Museum.

Our coach of the day, 352.

The destination beckons, I wonder what far away land we will travel to...

"All Aboard!"

John, our docent.

The cockpit, not quite like a 747.

I'm assumming the air pressure is a good thing.

We are underway.

Passing railcars on the siding...

Heavy equipment...

Lonely tree..

Interesting things on the coach. Ammo can?

Guess the shade is for the engineer when it's dark out with the interior lights on.

Cool ads.

All too quickly, we reach our turnaround point. We need to stop so we don't disturb the rail dweller.

Can't remember the name of the bird, only that her eggs resemble the gravel. The conductor asks everyone to stand up and then proceeds to flip all the seat backs so that they now face the other way. Then engineer removes the control handles from the front and moves them to duplicate controls in the rear and now it's "the front". He moves the car back the way we came, the conductor jumps off and throws the switch.

And we're back underway. All too soon, we arrive back at the station. So we tour the "projects". Glad all my projects are alot smaller and can fit under blue tarps.

Ok, what's for lunch!

A short cruise through Isleton and Walnut Grove we get to lunch. With a name like this, it's gotta be a hamburger.

I sure hope people follow the rules, hate to think it's where the drinking water comes from.

This bunch looks like trouble, better hurry up, feed them and get them out of here. The Harley riders are afraid to come in because of them.

Hmmm...

I go against the grain and get a patty melt. Letsee, salad or fries, are you kidding???!!

Lunch done, time for a photo op. Yea, another bridge...

Did I tell you the river is really full?

Neil, ride leader and president of the CJMC.

Gotta love the sign!

Let's ride!

No, he's not trying to do any "stunting", since I feel my old bones need a stretch too.

Time to start heading back.

Back over the Antioch Bridge.

It's really quite a steep incline.

So I part ways with my compadres and head back to the boring interstate.

Very cool end to the day when I spotted this, a Willys!

That's it, until the next ride.

Yesterday we had our West Side Ramble. Had to get an early start as I did not want to miss breakfast again at the Waffle Barn! Meet time was 8am and I had 150 miles to go and couldn't get up when my alarm went off at 4am. I did eventually leave. Mileage before with my new to me tach/speedo combo.

Good thing before swapping out the old one I changed the bulbs and lubed up the speedo and tach. Too bad I missed the last bushing in the tach because it's pretty sluggish. Hopefully it'll clear itself up, not!

On the road finally.

Since the interstate is so boring anyway, it may as well be an early morning shot. I told you I left early.

Breaking daylight.

Time for a new camera with I/S!

Cool '57 behind what looks like a '52 or '53.

Ok, after messing around with the Google map maker and sucking badly at it, I'll forego the map.

Finally off Interstate 80 and onto 113 towards Woodland. Still slab, but much quieter.

I'll tell you one thing, this highway is a speed trap! Just up ahead is a CHP using radar behind the overpass abutment and his cruiser hidden. Good thing the Mighty Tempter has limited high-end for my protection!

113 turns into a rural highway and much better for the old bike.

Doing my best Rossi impersonation.

I just had to stop and take a picture of this.

Guess the Motor Company really did.....

I get to the feeding ground.

I did get there a bit late, but everyone is gracious about it and lets me feast.

Wolfed down, tongue burnt, my stomach is in it's happy place. Time to saddle up and get on the road. Hmmm, didn't realize a pirate meeting was on too.

Ahh, more like it.

Of course the gradtuitous shot of the Grrrrr650!

Yes, I keep adding things to it, especially since it has taken over commuting duties, due to the Uly deciding that 30K miles on it is all it wants to do!

Off we go.

This is way better than the slab!

Our first stop. "Dude" (as he is fondly know as) the ride leader, with the beard, gives a brief history lesson. Like a classroom of delinquents, not sure anybody is listening though. I was no exception

All I heard was..."blah, blah blah, Fremont......blah blah blah" So here it is.

Ok, my continuity got disrupted when photobucket decided to freeze up.

To settle the restless natives.....pictures of classic bikes!

This was the big bike of the group....

This was the small bike of the group.

See, you don't need to have macho multi cc's to have fun!

too be continued....

Back on the road..

These were pointed out to us as being missile silos. I'm assuming for the cold war and long abandoned. See Dude, you're right, I wasn't listening.

These roads are just great, very little traffic and picturesques.

Coming into the town of Colusa..

They must have heard we were coming as people were making a mass exodus by bicycle! Must be the new Hollister. Sorry folks, the closest we have to Marlon Brando and Lee Marvin is Larry and Dude!

I'm sure the town's people were glad we left. Time for a pit stop.

Rested, well actually "relieved" a bit, we saddle up and wind down the road when this guy comes by us.

We get to an overlook...I think that truck went over right about here...."Oh my dawg" says John!

Nah, false alarm.

It is quite a drop though. I believe this is overlooking Stonyford, dirt bike paradise.

Down we go..

We get into Elk Creek for lunch.

This rowdy bunch took over a reserved spot for some sport tourer riders. We showed them what's what! Don't mess with classic bike riders!

Our hunger sated, we hit the road again. Up to Rattle Snake. Here is were my camera decided it's retiring, the lens refused to open while on the move. Let me tell you, that road going up there is a slice of twisting heaven! Great road condition, grippy as heck and scenic, wish I could have shared it with all of you. Finally a stopping point where I was able to coax a few shots out.

Here's a memorial to some brave fire fighters that gave their lives.

A moment of reflection...

Really for me, this was the highlight of the trip and the road back down was even better than coming up. Wish I had been smart enough to put the camera on movie mode and filmed the ride down. The rest of the trip was pretty much the reverse. Steve and I parted the rest of the group in the town of Maxwell and pretty much a buzz for home. Got back at 7pm and was able to have dinner with my in-laws to boot. Mileage done.
