I didn't take a dip. The water was still cold even in August. The Frog Toggs are good, but not that good.

I didn't carry any extra gas. I considered bring some before leaving on the trip. The only time I got a bit worried was on state road 9 from Bangor to Lubec. My gas mileage was around 50 mpg. I ended up using reserve about 10 miles from Lubec. When I filled up it took 2.6 gallons and it only holds 2.9 gallons. For the rest of the trip I was usually getting gas about every 100 miles just to take a rest.

Are you coming up to Canada or staying down in the US?

Bravo ! And on a 'Barbie' to boot. I just couldn't take the purple frame, seat, and fork boots.....so I painted the frame silver, went w black on the seat and boots. Left the funky green tank and radiator shields.

The wee klr is a way under-rated bike. It gets no respect next to the fancy WR,s, old DRZ's, new XT's and Sherpa's. Still it goes forever and is dirt simple. My kinda bike ! Love mine. I gotta do a long trip like yours. You've given me motivation for next Summer.

Threads like this are proof positive that you don't have to have a GS or a Katoom to have a great adventure.

I love the concept of taking off on a long one on a small bore bike, but I also appreciate performance on the highway.

How did your 250 handle concrete? Any issues powering uphill or passing?

I didn't have the time to go any further into Canada. I had 10 days off from work and this trip took 7 days round trip. I'm writing this report back at home now. I wish I had the ability to post from the road. I did travel through Canada after crossing over from Michigan. It was shorter than going down into Ohio.

I avoided highway for about 95% of this trip. There was only a few times where I had to make a 10 or 15 mile hop onto the highway. Most roads I took where all 55 mph and less.

The 250 did fine on the concrete as long as you kept the rpms up. I did have some hills in New York and Vermont that did require down shifting into 5th and vary rarely into 4th to make it to the top.

Thanks for all the great comments and interest in my trip from everyone.

Cadillac Mountain

US1 along the southern Maine coast line in good ride with views of the Atlantic and plenty of bridges to cross.

The weather cleared up and sunny clear blue skies greeted me thru the afternoon after leaving Lubec.

Marshall Lighthouse

I made it into Portland late and spent the night there. I woke early the next morning at 4am and was on the road by 5 am. Some bad storms where heading my way so I decided it was time to make my way home. Rain was predicted for the next two days out east. I rode thru NH and VT into New York where I stopped for the last picture of my trip at Max Bmw Motorcycles.

I had actually ran out of room for more pictures on my camera. I got caught in some really heavy rain in Canada for almost 3 hours late that evening. I made it home around 1am with a total of 780 miles for one day on the KLR250.

Final mileage at end of trip. Forgot to get a before shot, but it was at 26716.

The newest sticker added to the collection.

Hope everyone enjoyed, I know I enjoyed the fact of being able to wake up every morning with the unknown of where I would end up at the end of the day, Fred.

I wasn't planning on going 780 miles on my last day. I only had a few days left of my vacation from work and rain was heading my way. I figured I had such great weather the whole trip that I should start making my way home. I can honestly say I was worn out by the time I got home after that many miles.

Glad you enjoyed. New England has some great areas to explore.

Dang, 780 mi. on a 250? You da man! I've made the same trip from Mich. a couple of times. Of all my rides I think I like New England the best. It takes alot of courage to make a trip like yours with a Detroit Tiger ball cap. Great pictures. Welcome back!

I have video of both the ride up and down Mt. Washington. Its taking me a bit to get them all uploaded, but I got the first one uploaded today. Here's the first part going downhill from the summit.
