The Victoria Government has announced a major shake-up of speed limits.
A review has recommended the number of speed changes on some roads be reduced.
In the Melbourne suburb of Balaclava, Carlisle Street has 11 speed limit changes over 4.8 kilometres.
Under the changes that will be reduced to just five.
Eighty kilometre per hour (kph) "buffer zones" heading into some regional towns be phased out and replaced with signs saying 60 ahead.
Speed signs will be simplified and some 50kph speed zones will be increased to 60kph.
Two speed zones, 70 and 90kph will eventually be phased-out.
The review attracted 600 submissions from members of the public who identified numerous locations where drivers were confused about speed limits.
Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Ken Lay welcomes the changes and says hopefully the move will make the roads safer.
"I'm sure it will help," he told ABC local radio.
"I think there's been lots of views expressed that the clutter does cause confusion particularly around roadworks and the like, particularly in country locations.
"I think it will make it simpler. I think it will make it easier for the road users to understand what they're supposed to be travelling at."
Mr Lay says road safety experts will decide which speed limits go up and ones go down.

I love the fact that the 11 speed limit changes over 4.8 kilometres exist because of road safety experts in the first place

I was reading the latest ADB at work today, and just before I was leaving I thought I would finish the article I was on which happened to be Ben Grabham's bit.

At the end of the article he says

Quote:
...I also want to thank HSE and Colin Ross for giving me some very big reasons to stay motivated and get better for Dakar in January, 2013.
Have I missed a big announcement?

Edit, yes, I some how missed it...

I should have just googled it...
