Bleh, a load of old Scotland

At the start of the year I had plans in my head of all the biking I was going to do this year, places I was going to go, photos I wanted to take, things I wanted to see. Much the same sort of plans I had last year, and the year before that to be honest. Much like the previous years, all my plans seem to fall to the wayside as the pursuit of keeping a roof over my head and food on the table took priority. Again. In fact, I seem to have managed only about quarter of the KLR miles this year as I did last. I keep telling myself this is a good thing, I've only had to change the oil and filter once so far this year - that's a saving of 20 or so right there.

Anyways, I managed to grab Monday and Tuesday away from work last week. Well, sort of, I didn't actually get to leave until after 11am on Monday and I had to be back to do work on Tuesday evening. Still, most of Monday and Tuesday were mine.

Off I went. All familiar territory for me as I didn't really have enough time (or energy for that matter) to be exploring new places.

So, a bunch of pictures of Scotland, pretty much exactly the same as all the other pictures of Scotland I've ever posted.

Tuesday was a little less shiny, but nice riding none the less.

That's about it. By this point I was at the very top of Scotland and realising that I had 250 miles of some very twisty and narrow roads to get home in time to get some work done for Wednesday.

Great photos! I do have a question. Where are the trees? I see a few stands of evergreens but little old growth stuff? Or has the land been cleared for farming or perhaps for some other reason?

The North West Highlands are a little sparse in the tree department. There are still quite a few small sections of old forest although newer plantation probably account for more acreage. Scotland apparently used to have huge areas of forest, but it was felled to make way for grazing and to make ships and whatnot. Plus I suspect many of the trees moved to the East where the weather is a little less harsh, most of them seem to be found there anyway.

Frogwell ; beautiful photography ! All of them are great "money" shots . Wish I had the time and money to stop by and go for a ride in your area , it looks great . Then maybe you could drop in on me and take in a little of "my" area . It looks like you have to deal with a lot of traffic ? Is it always so congested ? Find some time , I would like to see more ! Thanks

So.....do you just set off alone on these trips? Where do you kip for the night, hotel, B&B, or camping ?
God, this sounds like biking heaven, just hitting the road with bike and camera taking it all in - I've often thought about doing this but..... I usually end up phoning around my pals and if I can't get somebody interested then I don't have the bottle to just go it alone..... and before you say it, yes, I have read 'Lois On The Loose' and yes, that makes me feel a right wuss !
Respect.

Thumb Beautiful!

Simply beautiful. Nice work, one of my favourite parts of the country, but for some reason my photos never seem to do it justice.

...now, where can I get hi-res versions?

Some stunning ones on your website too!
