Dutchman,
Is that a stock color for the RT in Europe? I don't believe I've ever seen that shade here in the U.S.

BMW Rider............

The red RT started life as Amarena Red & the previous owner had a slight spill and re-finished the whole 'bike a shade or two lighter.

It became obvious when I had the case lids painted and gave te paintshop the code for Amarena Red & they didn't match!! Needless to say, they did the job again!

Hi Dutchman,

I had a look at your pics and noticed that you toured the northern part of Spain.

I quickly dragged out my 2. February 2001 issue of Motorrad that had a travel report of the area between San Sebastian and Oviedo (Picos de Europa).

One of the photos shows a hairpin right after a short tunnel in the hillside. The hairpin hugs the edge of a gorge with incredible stonework supporting the road. Magazines have a nasty habit of never listing where a shot was taken exactly. Any ideas? Could scan it in and e-mail you this incredible shot.

Did you have a chance to see the "painted trees of Oma"?

Passo dello Stelvio is a good one, isn't it?

Slowly moving westward. Spain will be in the near future, but for now, a pic of Passo dello Stelvio...

Man Dutchman, if the stock red was THAT color I was have bought it in a minute. That's a great red! It would've been my third red bike in a row but so what.

Gonna check out the pix next.

Okay...checked out pictures......beautiful shots. Looks like a terrific vacation. Did you make plans beforehand or just wing it as you went?

Hi Global Rider...............

By all means e-mail me the pic to see if I know it...........

Don't know the painted trees......................

Talking of Stelvio, here we are on the southern descent.........

A great ride, to be repeated next year on the way to Tuscany.......

Laura...I always plan the basic route in advance, but each day's riding is planned over breakfast.............

Hi Dutchman,

The following photo was taken from the touring article that Motorrad magazine covered on northern Spain.

Bright and colorful...

You mean the western descent. The one that heads through a couple of tunnels towards the town of Bormio.

The photo covers a full two pages which my scanner couldn't scan, and then what it did scan, I cropped to keep the file size down so that I could post it here for all to see.

Now this is what I call riding....

I e-mailed Motorrad for the location just the other day, but I have since received an e-mail from someone on this forum stating that the hairpin on the edge of the mountain is located on the way north from Santo Domingo.

Got to ride that one as well in the near future.

Any time. A bit big, but some photos are worth the download time.

Isn't it always like that. For years, I missed riding the Sottoguda gorge while in the Dolomites, but finally managed it this past summer.

It gives you a reason for going back.
