John Markwell behind the spotting scope...

Ben of FN calling shots for one of the shooters

Brock Markwell checking hits...

On the hill above the fence line you can see white steel plate targets ranging fron 400 to 700 yards...

Motorcycles, Guns, and fishing equipment just seem to go together.

And this, my ADV riding friends, is why, if you live anywhere close to the Pendleton county area of West Virginia you need to ride there......

That's the view looking north from US route 33 at German Valley.

My little corner of the world for a few nights...

The next morning I took a hike and climbed the north peak of Seneca Rocks. Things looked something like this....

I'm hiking my to the peak on the right, the north peak, then climbing my way out as far to the right of that peak as I can....

From the top of the rocks I could see my camp site. See? Right on the tip of my finger...

Look closer.....

Closer still...

20x optical, 80x digital zzzzzzooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmm.

Climbers on the south peak...

I.............am a poser...

These guys aren't......

One wrong move and it's a 600 foot drop to the bottom.

One last look and I'm outta here........

One the way down I'm eyed suspiciously by one of the locals...

Well that's enough hiking and climbing for one morning.

Now, where in the hell did I leave that VStrom?

Once on the bike I headed toward Virginia. I hadn't gone far when I noticed a quick, gray, suicidal blur coming from my right. I ducked too late. A loud CRACK! shot through the road noise in my helmet.

I glanced quickly in the mirror to see a bird fall on the centerline.

Poor bird...I'll turn around and go back to see if he's OK.

He's not.... .....

Hmmmmmmm, looks like a red-bellied, gray helmet-sucker.

Well, there was nothing I could do but ride on. So I did.

But about a half mile down the road I started to feel sorry for the little feller. And I thought it would be the right thing to do if I went back and paid my respects.

You know..... in the proper ADV tradition........

He'd been blown around a little by passing traffic but he was still there....

So here's to you little Red-bellied, gray helmet-sucker......

Me...1

Red-bellied, gray helmet-suckers...ZERO!

More gorgeous scenery from the weekend......

The ride home......

Well, that's it. Glad you could come along. It was a near perfect weekend ride. Except for laying the bike down once and getting hit in the head by a suicidal bird it was great.

Mrs. MeanStreaker and I are leaving tomorrow on the Vee to a cabin in the Elkins, WV area. Thanks for the reminder of the great stuff to expect!
