Are these things street legal (USA) or not? I thought they were, but the present owner doesn't think so, and does not have it licensed.

TIA!

They're not, but it's fairly common to see them 'converted.'

Consider yourself converted.

Cool Police reference in your 'location' BTW.

Eaahhhh... the water, it burns! It burns!

Police reference? As in Sting, Andy and Stewart?

Sorry. Homer (no, not Simpson ) came up with it first. See: The Odyssey, Book 12

Scylla was a rather nasty creature who lived in a cave high up a cliff on one side of a narrow strait through which Ulysses' ship had to sail. She had a rude habit of plucking and eating six sailors (one for each of her six heads) from each ship which sailed within reach of her post. Charybdis, the whirlpool or chasm, was on the other side of the strait. Three times each day Charybdis would gulp down water - and any ships nearby, with such force that even Neptune could not withstand it.

In modern-speak, it's the proverbial choice between two equally dreadfull alternatives. AKA: The devil and the deep blue sea. AKA: Hobson's choice.

Anywho, I'll have to pass on the KLX 'cause I need road worthyness. The seller is asking $1,100 if anyone is interested. I have pics too.

I knew that Sting had been an English teacher at one point (and a literate fellow), and that the song lyrics were a reference to Greek mythology, but I figured that you were probably referring to the lyrics from "Wrapped Around My Finger."

Bzzt, try again. I'll take "Literary References in Rock Lyrics" for $200, Alex ....

From what I understand, the KLX650R is not a street legal KLX. The KLX650C, however is. Here's a thread on the subject at thumpertalk.

I don't know about the conversion kit, I know they do it on the Honda XR650R, as Honda also sells a XR650L - (Street legal version).

Just to be clear, the XR650L is not a street legal version of the newer liquid cooled XR650R. Totally different bikes. The 650L is closer to the old XR600R or XL600R.

Thanks for the info. I had to pass since I don't want to deal with converting the bike. The price seemed great too. Oh, I can send pics/owner contact info if anyone is interested. Just PM me.

Too bad they got the lyrics wrong...

Oh well. Least they read SOME of the books.
