Hello Peregrine40

Yeah... so where you from? I am in Canada right now, getting ready to go and I am breaking up the trip into two sections. I leave to Mexico in 3 weeks and then I return to Mexico in February and I am planing/hoping to be in Bahia on March 01. So, it doesn't mean that I can get you a place to stay when you come to Salvador. All my family still there and we have a condo in Salvador but the actual family lives in Seabra which is in the Chapada Diamantina around 500kms west of Salvador.

Keep in touch

Thanks, no real plan. I'm in Floripa now and will head north to Rio soon. After that I need to make my way south to Iguacu then Paraguay.

Destination Bahia. Drop a line if you're on the route, or have places that I must not be missed. Would love to share a beer, exchange stories or just kick it for a bit. Will check out San Luis in a day or two, then maybe the sand dunes, and keep going down till Arraial D'Ajuda.

Don't be shy;

Best, P.
Hi there,

Welcome to Brazil. I'm sure you'll have a great time here.
So any plans after Arraial d'Ajuda? Rio de Janeiro is only a lousy 1200km further south

Ride safe
Raf

Hello there. I'm coming down from New Mexico. Been a long way. Just arrived to Parnaiba. Heading south from there.
Looking forward to Salvador. Hear good things, but also to be careful with security in some areas. We'll see. Have done some couch surfing and some posadas. Let me know if you can recommend any good places.

The trip from Mexico is fantastic! Highly recommend it. Colombia was amazing as well.

Let me know when you make it down.

I'm in Floripa and it does not suck.

Good winds here.

I've been partying for the last week with a buncha Ozzie surfers and will roll north early next week if my liver survives.

Hey

Send me an email and I can get you a place to stay. The parking is in a closed and secured apartment building parking lot, so things can happen but very unlikely. Do you speak any Portuguese? My sister lives there and she doesn't speak English to save her life. I can also get my cousin who speaks "good" English to give you tips of where to go and what to do.

Email me at

Yeah I remember a few of those caipirinhas... They were rather strong
Are those the same ozzie surfers that were there when we were?

The weather is superhot here in Rio de Janeiro... Spring just started but it feels like summer already... I'm sitting in my office with ventilator on and it's almost 35°c

Take care and don't even THINK about bringing that rain with you, ok?

See you.
Raf

Oopa Raf. Thanks for the note! Very cool to be here.
Arraial is immediate destination, but will come to Rio and Sao Paolo for sure, and will come and see you. May need a place south of the border to stash my moto for a few months a year after my temporary import paperwork for Brazil runs out!

Here's a few places worth checking out south of Arraial d'ajuda:
Parque Monte Pascoal, Cumuruxatiba, Prados (BA)
Vitoria, Pedra Azul, the scenic ES164 to cachoeiro de Itapemirim (ES)

Enjoy your ride and let me know when you get close to Rio...

Cheers.
Raf

I'm in Rio now after hanging and riding with Raf for a few days. Raf has a nice operation in Volta Redonda and he's a good resource if you're interested in seeing the less traveled Brasil.

Muito obrigado amigo!

Hey Mark,

Hope you're Ok in the "Cidade Maravilhosa"

The first thing I found when I got back home were your Piña and bacate... I forgot to take them out of my backpack...
Hope you'll live, but you probably have more interesting things to do while in Rio, right?

Did you go to Rio Scenarium yet? Seen other stuff?

I haven't heard back from the translation guy... I'll give him a call later today. Hope he's not out of town...

Grtz

Yeah, I realized that right after you left. No biggie, plenty of supply here.

Rio rocks, man. I've been doing my usual walking all over and just absorbing it. I walked up to the Cristo statue (actually to the trem) today but it was cloudy at the top. It's supposed to be sunny tomorrow so I may go back, that view is something else.

Let me know if he contacts you. I'll be here for a few more days at least.

Tried to call him but got voicemail... Sent him another msg via Facebook (saw he was active there on monday, so he should still be alive somewhere )

Here's some more pics of how I got to see the big guy...
