Day 2.......

Today would be our first full day in Moab and we had the White Rim Trail scheduled for today. If you have been watching the Rockies thread you will already know that the WRT had some sever storm damage in mid August. See it HERE.

What this means to us is that we will have to do an "out n back" ride since the WRT is closed at Potato Bottom. So we get up and hit Denny's about 0600 and then head out with the sun just coming up.

We stop to dump some coffee. Here Oleary is ready to ride. This is great fun and will be our longest day.

The riding and the views don't disappoint.

We come up on the "Balanced Rock"

The Sun just trying to peak over the ridge.. gorgeous morning but very cool which is just fine out here. Good morning Sunshine!

Next we come up on Mussellman Arch

I take my camera along as I walk the arch and snap a quick shot..

Here Oleary walks the walk.....

It seems around every turn there are more vistas that we have to check out..

We push on among the rocks and sand........

Checking out more of the endless vistas

It's like a lunar landscape out here.....

Oleary riding one of the sandy twisties.

It's about this time that our five hours are up so we turn around and head back to camp. Ten hour day and we were dog tired. We were so glad it wasn't super hot.

Time to call it a day, I have two more days to report on from Moab but will be leaving on the TAT back to Arkansas Monday AM (in the morning)

later dudes.

Before you leave, you have to ride Monitor and Merrimac. It is just a little north of Gemini Bridges and is my favorite ride of all time! It is not overly technical, you can do it!

Great post!

Nice pics. We rode some of the same area last October, albeit on 4 wheelers.

Great pics!

Out 5 and back 5. Big day!

I'm guessing that the big tanks help in that regard. Any gas stops on your ride? (asks the KTM rider with 130 mile range)

Mike, when you and O'Leary get home you can tutor me on how to set-up my WRR.

Ride safe, have fun, eat, sleep, repeat!

Yes it was a very big day, no gas but they do have restroom facilities
It is an all day event so we took "supplies" for lunch and plenty of water and Gatorade. Fun but tiring day for sure.

Day 3...........

The plan today was to ride Arches National Park, then circle around and ride the rest of the White Rim Trail including the Schaeffer switchbacks.

We hit Denny's at about 0600 and by 0715 it was light enough to ride. We head out to saddle up and a guy goes by asking questions, ends up snapping our picture.

We head out to Arches and had figured it would be mostly paved but hoped for some great sights...........wrong..... very disappointing when compared to what we had seen on the WRT and Gemini rides. We took what pictures we thought might be of interest so will share them.

Oleary reasoned that Arches was more for people who can't get out to see the WRT or Gemini etc. had to agree. So we took the first gravel road out of there we could.

Fun for a while and then we hit deep sand.....for three miles..ugh.

After that workout, we head for the WRT, now this is more like it!

Soon after we are at the Schaeffer switch backs! Fantastic!

Oleary heading on down...

The drop off was always on your mind.......

Where we're going when we get to the bottom...

What most of the WRT trails look like, either you're dodging rocks, ruts or in sand. In other words busy all the time.

The mighty Colorado River

After a long day we arrive back in Moab and take a well earned shower.......and do some laundry

Another great day comes to an end.

Pay? What is this "Pay" of which you speak?

I've already removed the AIS and done the air box flapper mod.

Great report! Keep it coming.
