I had to laugh about LaVeta. We were forced there by a huge rainstorm and I walked in the LaVeta inn in full gear and dripping wet. Asked for a room and almost before I finished she said "All full up!" Suspicious. While we were on the porch trying to decide what to do another employee came out and pointed us to a different place across the tracks.

Guy in a wife beater tank took our money and pointed us to what looked like FEMA trailers out back. Turned out to be a decent room. He pointed out the bar he owned that served food and was bragging how there wasn't ever any trouble because he threw the trash out.

I asked if there were any pretty girls that hung out there and he bellowed "Hell there aint even any pretty girls in the whole damn town! Welcome to backwoods Colorado boys!"

Nice RR so far guys...My buddy Redog1 and I just got back from riding most of the Western TAT and it looks like it would be a blast going West-East...Maybe next year if my wife lets me... Be safe out there!

Day 5.......
Got up and left Liberal, KS and soon hit the Oklahoma sand and grasshoppers.

Hard ridding in this junk but kept my speed up and ran through it OK. Some of the roads in this portion of the TAT are nothing more than dirt paths.

Saw a cool old bridge

Had one water crossing on the East side of the Osage Indian reservation but it was no big deal. Just strange to see it because it had been so dry the whole trip.

Not many pictures today, was concentrating on rolling up the miles. Ended up at 368 for the day. Stayed in Bartlesville, OK for the night.

End of day 5.

The last day.......day 6

More of the same, roll of the miles, had some interesting dirt roads to ride and the riding started to look more like what I'm used to in Arkansas.

Had only 149 miles today and rolled into my home at about 10:30am.

End of a long but fun trip.

Thanks for going along, hope you all enjoyed it.

Till next time.

Hi Cannonshot, boy tough question. I would say that Moab was still the best of the best for this trip. If nothing else because I had Oleary to ride with during that part. The scenery was amazing but the TAT was fun too. I hope to get NV, CA, OR done one of these days too.

Have been enjoying your CD trip report too. Excellent as usual.

Don't beat yourself up too bad for riding up as high as you did though because the altitude really can affect your judgement. Thanks for writing up all your adventures and for all the pictures too. Great stuff!!!

Good to see your still keeping track of us JD, will have to hook up when you get back so plan on it! I bet the battery will still be good on the Rē so she'll start right up like before

Funny story, doesn't surprise me about the town however. I saw the trailers and thought about it them, they also had a bed/breakfast, I just didn't feel like putting all my gear back on to check it out so said fine and got the room.

Great Ride Report

Sounds like that was a little "hairy" at TinCup?

I assume you would not recommend the F800GS you originally planned on?

The new Tin Cup used to be considered a easy pass but those things change and I was in a Jeep...now the old TC was a different story. When there is a lot of water in Mirror Lake West side can be tough(deep) Worst for me was the loose rocks from TC town to lake. and the very top can me bad. I have done East side in 2wd pickup but wouldnt dare try top.
Sorry off subj a tad this was a very enjoyable RR and makes me anxious to get back on that trail on 2 wheels this time
Thanks for pics and text!!

East side is basicly just switch backs and it has been over 10 years since I have been on either side and not on 2 whls which makes a diff big time also Im 10+ years older and have had heart surgery.

Good report...but I have an "important" question.

What kind of rearview mirrors are those mounted in your handguards?

They are available Here as are the hand guards etc. Highly recommended, very strong and versatile. Mirrors fold in if needed and nestle in the hand guard.
