Nice report

The amazing thing about the Shackleton expedition that sticks in my mind is a few guys went through all that only to return home and be promptly killed in WWI.

I'm not sure what to make of that, but I'm sure it's profound.

I know. They were so eager to get to it, too. They hardly took a day off when they got home.

Going home must be in the air this fall.

The Ride Back

All good things must come to an end, otherwise they wouldn't be good things. They'd just be ordinary, everyday things.

Rather than running through Connecticut I took the Mass. Pike out to the Taconic Parkway and headed south from there. In the interest of saving miles, in all the trips I've made to Maine, I've always used I-84 as the east-west route. The Taconic (and the Mass. Pike for that matter) was a pleasant surprise. There is no commercial traffic allowed, so there's just the occasional passenger car. Picture the BRP as a divided four-lane with fewer curves. It's a great, smooth road and the speed limit is 55.

I stopped along the way for a rest and some education.

While I was taking those pictures a car went by and I heard a crash. I looked around to see a pile of debris sliding down the road behind a minivan.

I picked up these two bits...

and put them in the pile.

That probably ruined someone's day.

I saw this sitting on the wall where I was stopped; I wonder if it's still there?

Here's a couple on the fly shots of the Taconic Parkway. It looks like going this way adds about 100 miles to the trip, but it might be worth it.

The Last Day

Any minor ability I may have had for introspection and getting some things down on paper seems to have vanished into the routine of everyday life.

I had never ridden the section of the BRP from Waynesville to Peaks of Otter, so I treated myself to a diversion on the last leg of the ride home. The weather was overcast and sprinkly and I struggled with my P&S to get any good pictures, but here's what I managed to salvage.

I took a little ride down SR 43 from Peaks of Otter to Hwy. 29, if there are any Doof Clenas here, you can appreciate that.

Thanks for stopping by!

Fixed that little formatting error... .

Monkey, Justy and Faulkner, thanks for looking in.

Signal; When we moved here from Bakersfield it was quite a shock. Even though I'm from Maine, it took a while to get used to it.

Kevin; Me too. I expect I'll see you at TWO sometime Thursday?

Land; Thanks for stopping by. You're close enough that I guess we would meet at some point...

Yes....I'm hoping to do that and if you want, we should be able to ride a nice mix of dirt and pavement to NCN Friday morning.

Also I think that you should get your chance to meet Mr. Land @ NCN too.
