ICBC loophole bonus?

I decided to plump up my ICBC coverage for a ride from Peachland to the Alvord desert . I wanted the whole shebang, fire theft collision and everything. This is way more than I usually carry. I pay by the month and the very helpful clerk said.
If I remove this additional coverage when I return, before my scheduled payment there would be no charge!
The dates involved happened to fit, that is I left soon after the normal $79. per month payment came out and returned and removed the extra coverage before the $185 payment was due.
I rode fully Insured for free............
This can be done over and over. Hope this is clear.

Compared to other provinces ie: Ontario, Quebec, Alberta etc it actually is. Plus I get to ride for 12 months a year verses your 6-8.

So you don't carry theft insurance the rest of the time?

Alberta has reasonable insurance rates, but Southern Ont and Quebec do not. I am paying less than 1/3rd of what it cost me in Ont to insure the same model but a newer version here

Come back and talk to me when you've got two teenagers in the house. I remember spending every year at insurance renewal time in the Maritimes having to hit every broker in town to get the best rate. The spread was unreal if you didn't shop around, especially if you were a teenager with a car and a motorcycle.

ICBC is mroe expensive for those with clean, and long driving records, but for those who are deemed higher risks in other places it's incredibly cheaper. The mandatory insurance also covers a lot more ground than most of the private coverage I used to get back east.

I'm getting the impression that it shakes out pretty well over time.

Not just southern Ontario, all of Ontario has unreasonable rates. Also, no discount (beyond 10% multi-vehicle discount) for owning two bikes. Never mind I can only ride one at a time, in Ontario I have to pay full rates for both :(

Quebec's insurance isn't as bad. Your basic liability is worked into your license plate fee, so some people only pay $200-$300 a year for insurance. Plates cost $600 (or waaay more if deemed a sport bike). But that isn't insurance right?

Talking with a guy who lives in vermont and pays $180 a year for multiple bikes makes me ill

Worse yet, I voted for McGuinty (the first time). His original promise was lower tuition (er, nope, that didn't happen) and lower insurance rates (really didn't happen)
