Hey, look what I got today.



Yeah that's right, Seat Concepts for the XT225------you are looking at the first in existence.







It is very comfortable--the extra width is a huge improvement. Foam density is firm but you do sink into it just a bit once you are on it for a minute. Just about perfect in my opinion. The foam density is a little teeny bit softer than my Sargent DR650 seat for instance.

This seat foam and cover are on the stock Yamaha XT225 seat pan.

The seat crowns in the center and drops off at the sides ever so slightly. This in contrast to the Sargent or Corbin seats that tend to have a bit of a dish to the middle and upward lip at the outsides. However with the tiny bit of give the foam has, you settle into it just right and feel good, even support side to side.

Quality and workmanship are great.

Even though it's blowing snow outside, I couldn't resist a little ride, so I headed out for a couple of miles. This seat is way more comfortable than the stocker. I had the Wally World seat cushion on the original, had added layers of carpet padding, I tried lots of things. This feels better by far, looks great, and now I look forward to making much longer rides on the little XT.

Great job SeatConcepts.com!! You will sell a bajillion of these!

On my previous bike (2001 R1100S), I changed seats as often as I changed tires.

The '06 950 Adventure which is the current obsession, really hasn't been quite as bad as the S, but nearly. I guess it's an old guy thing. Comfort for the butt is a good thing.
Actually when I got the bike with the gel seat I thought it was petty damn good out-of-the-box. Even so, it is my quest to perfect the ergos on any bike.
Comfort wise, a ride to Laguna Seca from SoCal on the KTM was just 'O.K.'

The next step was to get the bike into a more offroad mode as my dirt learn curve moved along. The rage of course is the Renazco. Contacting the man, and finding the waiting list long, a no-refund deposit, and being without a seat was not an option. He's got a good business...good on him.

So I found a used one. It was hard(ish) and tall, basically sitting on a crown at the leg-out position. Tall was good, as I don't have to un-bend my knees so far to stand up.
However tall made it harder to touch the ground. Lowering the suspenders 1" helped there. Still, I wouldn't call that particular saddle an all day seat. Good for standing, not necessarily for sitting.

Next Renazco #2, not so high, a bit softer. For me, offroad perfect. Shaped flatter with a good taper at the thigh.
Still, just last weekend I met up with a buddy in Ojai and made the loop over Maricopa Hwy (33) o 166 and over to Frazier Park and home. That's about 225 miles in a loop from my crib. Evidently I'm good fro about 200 miles these days before der bunshurten gets serious. Pretty much done at that point ass-wise.

But maybe I digress, point is, the choices up until now for us dualsporters are :
a custom like Mayer (expensive, and you sorta get what you pay for...),
Corbin (pricey, hard, and heavy),
Sargent (still pricey but a good option),
Renazco (how long you want to wait? semi-pricey as well).

Enter Seat Concepts...now this is an alternative that I can live with!
At the moment close to half the price of others, in some cases a third if it's a custom saddle.
Build is as good as any upholstery shop you'll come across, no frills or special tri-colore emblazoned embroidery options, no cranberry-orange carbon-fiber imprinted-look personalization cues.
Just an honest and well thought out seat designed for the 'dual' in dualsport.
And with the taller than normal 950 Adventure, the 'low comfort' seat is a welcome option.

Shape is what matters here, and I think the boys from Hemet are getting these fresh-off-the-table designs right the first time.

Dang! Looking at the 'Concepts saddle makes me wonder why I'd spend so much on anything else! Nice fit and finish. Excellent shapage.

The seat actually appear to the eye to have a pretty good slope, but when you get the derriere settled in you find a very nice surprise. It actually sits quite flat where you want it to be. It's just kind of hidden in a 'secret place' at the step portion. Place your palm at the step and you'll feel it's actually shaped perfectly. That, and it's wider than the stocker as well.



I didn't get to do the 200 mile limit test this weekend due to the weather, but did do and effortless street and trail 50 mile loop around the neighborhood.
I immediately felt an improvement over both the stock and the 'R' seat.
A nice sweat spot in aggressive modes and an additional nice flat area to slide back on during long stretches of road.

For the short of leg (and short of $$$) this is the perfect choice for a dualsport moto. It sits low, it's got that nice flatness option, correct thigh taper, and a very good plushy for the tushy foam. I won't even ask what the secret is here. Whatever foam is used it's excellent.

I'll be keeping the 'R' seat for offroading because I prefer the seat-to-peg relationship for my old achin' knees.
But the next time I decide take a ride up to Laguna Seca, or anything over 200 miles for that fact, I'll be using the SC saddle!

Yep, it's feels good to have choices.
