Brings us to today's destination (Yea, I know its in Arizona, but the route to the North Rim just down Hwy 89 south of Kanab about an hour)

Really is beautiful- though this day was a bit hazy (south winds blow pollution in from Vegas/So Cal )

Love the North Rim- Gotta stay in the cabins some day

A view off 9600 foot Boulder Mountain (the clouds really limited sight distance this day)

You didn't stop and peer over the edge and take a picture? I don't remember what side this is from. But to give everyone an idea. GPS at the top of the road compared to the canyon below (Calf Creek campground) is over 1,000 foot difference.



That's from the little pull-out I think you took lthe winding raod pic from looking over the edge to the west :)

I assume you're talking about east on Hwy 89 Alt from Jacob's Lake turn off- really is a beautiful high desert ride. Accross Marble canyon- Then north at bitter springs to Page and the dam....great ride

I'm not sure if I have any (digital) pics- obviously been too long

Didn't take the trail last visit- it is a lot of grins (when dry)- big bike solo (I really suck in mud)

I love the idea that it accesses parts of Capitol Reef that are remote- many color changes in just a few miles

It wasn't planned (at first)- I'd just sat down near the rim to rest and take it in (all the french and german's were on the benches)- I was snapping a few pics adn thought it might look cool to hang the boots on the edge, so I scooted up and lined up a couple shots

then the Ranger lady set me straight

Heading up Trappers Loop (Snowbasin in the distance)-- a great sweeper- turn climb up the 5 miles to the top, very pleased for the passing lane , 'cause man you can fly up this one

Same summit, looking northeast toward Morgan...the morning haze (and south wind kicking up some dust) limited the view some, but the 3rd mountain range in the distance is over 100 miles away

Dead Horse point, a Utah state park, located (just 15 miles or so as the crow flies) SW of Moab, and a couple miles north of Island in the Sky region of Canyonlands NAtl Park (along the same road- SR 313)


It does have a Grand Canyon feel, but much smaller (you can easliy see the bottom- note the Schaffer Trail dirt road in a couple of the pics adn frequently can see day trippin boats running the Colorado)
