So got another secret santa box yesterday-
Mr Salty got a friend

Sun shining, 33 degrees, roads fairly clear
Gotta get a birds beak frozen

The garage is full of winter clutter...

Rode up 30 miles or so to the nearest frozen lake to see the frozen fishermen

The bird froze his tail feathers off

The side road around the lake was in the shade, and under 3" of ice

Did the slip/slide 50 point turn around to head for home

Never turned the heated vest off

Loved This Thread

for quite a bit.
Negative Temps here in Michigan for lows. Highs in the teens.
You and RedRockRider keep us going for Utah riding.

Road looks frozen as I saw some black ice in the last couple of pics. You got some 'big ones'.

Be Safe,
Simba

Thanks-

the only real ice was that short stretch 'round the lake- the roads (other than some north side shadows) were clear-

Nice to get out, but was cold at speed

First of all, beautiful photos! I've been (quietly) following this thread for some time now and the photos never disappoint!

Second, how do you keep warm? Is the heated vest under the Roadcrafter enough for near freezing temperatures? What about your hands, heated grips & gloves?

Thanks and Safe Rides!

Thanks for tossing in your hat

I guess warm is relative. Yesterday's ride was only about 1 hr, so i knew the garage was not THAT far away. Under 40 deg is tough to ride in for long periods (for me).

Feet- I use thin skiboot socks- sometimes with a really thin liner sock doubled up, Big thick socks with limited toe space invariably leave my toes colder.

Hands- heated grips are nice, but my finger tips still freeze. I believe the hand guards do deflect some wind and help. Gloves are the aerostich insulated elk gauntlets, kinda feel bulky but operational

legs- I use a baselayer/athletic tight with an athletic "swishy" pant over the top as a wind barrier under the 'stich- no cotton, cotton kills in the cold

The Utah "January Thaw" has been around for a couple days-
temps into the upper 30's , even up to (wait for it.....) 42 today

Out for an oil heating-battery charging run

Somewhere between Brigham City and Tremonton- must have been repaved last fall- was super smooth

To the east, was cold out in the fields, afternoon fog started as the ground heated up

Was good to get out- got more than a few odd looks on SB I-15 from the Idaho border down, some friendly waves (one unfriendly)-
Happy trails all

Good to see you out there in January! We've been up into the 50's down here in Price and I think a lot of people are confused by that Heck, I'm out riding most days even if it's just around town

Stay warm and keep having fun

Hey buddy
Would love to meet and greet somewhere. Also got an awsome futon that has had some inmate use-

My one of my oldest adventures, my 21 YO son, is in france doing some cullinary arts, chef something-or-other training, and has had a tough go lately- he's the only 'merican stuck in a ski village full of snobby sorts
