Centralia PA - Rode the mine fire road today -Video

You'll have to forgive the shakies, I was holding my Fuji in one hand, and driving with the other. This is the section of Rt.61 that was closed due to the mine fire burning underneath the road. It has been closed and blocked off for quite a few years now.

I forgot about this road / town. The family and I watched a documentary last winter on these coal seam fires. My first thought was to ride it. Well Done!

Thanks for the tour.

I like visiting that place once in a while. I'm always temped to use that big road heave as a jump but have only been there with the wrong bike to try such things.

Cool, I've thought the same thing.. My Bandit 1200 wouldn't do so well either. I think my next bike is going to be some kind of supermoto. Those just look like way too much fun...

TONS! You would not be disappointed. I'm making my next bike a dual sport, or supermoto, just so I can go explore over there deeper.

Rode over today.. Didn't get to really go where I wanted to, due to my buddy skipping out.. :, and me having a Bandit.. I need a dual sport, or a supermoto. shits just too rough for the ole girl. Got some decent pics anyway.

This is a little reserve I like to stop and smell the roses at.. Its in the valley between the mountains.

This is east of Centralia, off Big Mine Run Rd.

Downtown Ashland

Odd Fellows Cemetery, which is right next to where the fire started.

Couple of random vent pipes...

Mother earth slowly reclaiming the roads..

The more off the beaten path you go, the more of this you see...

I think the beast time to go poking around would be in the spring or fall, when the leaves are off the trees. Everything is so over grown, that you could be right next to something cool, and not even know it.. to be continued...

I dunno what it is about that place but it intrigues me. I have wanted to go there sometime now. Have you ran into any law there? Late night groups hangin out?

Never ran into any law there. Every time I go, there are other people there exploring, and an occasional pack of 4 wheelers will ride by.
Never been there at night. But in my travels, I have found at least a dozen spots where camp fires/party spots have been made. Probably mostly by kids. Lots of stuff just laying around the mountain, if you go off the beaten path.
