Strommin' in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia.

I've had my new black Weestrom since February this year, and only managed to put 1700K's on it. So with cabin fever setting in, and some time off work I decided that a big trip was called for. I was impressed by masterbrewer's RR on the Flinders Ranges Classic, so thought I'd see them for myself.
Here it is, all shiny and packed, ready to go.

After a boring run up the Calder Highway from Melbourne, I came across Big Lizzie, in Redcliffs.

Then it was on into Mildura.
Bridge over the Murray River in Mildura. Connecting Victoria with NSW.

No it's not a Race Track. It's the Fruit Fly Inspection Station at Yamba, as you enter South Australia.

The Railway Station in the Flinders Ranges town of Quorn.

On back roads from Quorn to Hawker and beyond.

Warren Gorge.

Entering the Flinders Ranges National Park at Brachina Gorge Lookout.

Brachina Gorge.

Heading for Bunyeroo Gorge.

Bunyeroo Gorge.

Stokes Hill Lookout.

On the road to Blinman.

The road up to Razorback Lookout.

and looking the other way.

Parachilna Gorge.

A stop at the Prairie Hotel Parachilna, for a nice cold beer.

Then it was time to turn for home. No pics of the return trip, because nothing seemed as interesting as where I'd been !!
The Flinders Ranges are a stunning part of South Australia. The photographs do not do it justice. The view around every corner takes your breath away.
Over the 3000k's of the trip the Weestrom performed faultlessly, (as you would expect). Effortlessly covered the tar kilometers. and handling the dirt with ease. Returning on average 5lt/100K's. (56.5 mpg for you non-metric people). At a GPS indicated $1.10 to $1.20. A great trip.
Mungo.

Well done Mungo. I didn't know you had a Weestrom! Looks the part and from all accounts a great bike. Not the kind of territory for the Blackbird.
Next time you are going for a ride just let us all know.
The 650 gets about the same economy as my 270............???
Dargo is next so bring it on.

G'day Brian

Looks like you had good weather too, but you did look a tad lonely compared to my last trip.

Keep an eye out for dates in May for Flinders Classic 2010 if you want a bit of fun.

Doesn't the Flinders Ranges just make you feel like you are out there living the "Real World" with what nature has to offer.

ps thanks for your kind words too.

'fraid not vOOdsy. I just grabbed the map and tried to get around as many of the more popular areas as I could. Since I was on my own I didn't venture into the more isolated areas, for safety's sake.

G'Day Jase. In the Ranges I camped at Quorn, Wilpena Pound, and Parachilna Gorge.

Great stuff Mungo

The rock formations in the Flinders look very similar to the ones in the Kimberley. Very high on my "To Do List"

Thanks for the report and great pics Brian.
I'll be through there in September, and will check out some of those gorges.
You've got me itching to get away now.

Tyres are the stock Trailwings. Mods are the Givi engine bars and a B & B Bashplate.

Looks like you had a great ride Mungo, I did get your message last week but I was too green with envy to reply. I see you had perfect clear skies, the views look bloody fantastic, now more than ever I wish I had been there too... did you still manage a cask of red each night in my absence!!
