Yes

Thanks much for your interest Uraldog and others who have followed this post, I appreciate it and promise to complete it soon with a couple more entries. For some reason, this report has been particularly hard for me to finish, maybe because my words and pics don't seem to convey how extraordinary it seemed to me at the time. But I guess that's exactly the challenge of writing these reports, to evoke those feelings.

I had no idea about these ruined cities in the Gobi. It sounds amazing when you talk about the bones, artifacts and remains to be found, as if the city was exterminated in recent times.

Incredible ride. Thank you so much for sharing it. It is like living in an Indiana Jones movie. Just when you thought you know something about China, something like this comes along. Congratulations on a great trip. My condolences to Paolos's friends and family.

Lunch one day in the Badain Jaran:

More pics of the monastery days away from a paved road in the Badain Jaran:

Inside the monastery:

We rode all day after visiting the monastery through desolate areas before arriving at village with a gas pump, where we gassed up:

Afterward, we joined a gravel road and gained some elevation:

The road was washed out in several places:

Camped out again that evening. (Never a shortage of beer):

Next day, we came across a woman leading some camels:

We rejoined paved road later that day:

We had the roads to ourselves:

We headed into the foothills of the Helan Shan range toward a monastery complex where we were to spend the night in yurts:

One of the monasteries:

View from the monastery across the valley:

From atop one of the monasteries:

Whole roast sheep for dinner, then much drinking and dancing on this last night on the road:

Back in Yinchuan at the the end of the journey for a final dinner and then a posed group shot with local officials:

Thanks to all of you for reading!
