Great report. Hot Springs area alternate routes
I live in Hot Springs Village and can offer two alternate routes once you hit Hwy 5, coming off Harris Road. The TART route has you go east on Hwy 5 to Hwy 9 to the intersection with Sulphur Springs Road.
As an alternative, turn WEST on Hwy 5 and go 2 miles to a right turn onto Burk Road.
After one mile, veer right onto Vance Road and follow this about four miles to Sulphur Springs Road. This cuts off a few miles of tarmac.
If you want to take a side trip into the city of Hot Springs for food or gas, when you retrace your route back east on Hwy 5 watch for Danville Road on your left (on the curve about 2 miles east of the Hwy 5/7 intersection and just past the landscape supply lot on the right.)
Take Danville Road (a public road through Hot Springs Village with no access except to property owners) and across the old bridge on the Saline River.
Bear right on Sulphur Springs Road at the intersection with Mt Ida Road - across the one-lane cement bridge. Follow Sulphur Springs Road to the intersection with Johnson Hwy. Note: this western section of Sulphur Springs Road has some rough patches and washouts are common on the hills.
Have fun, and let me know if you need a ride partner!
