We headed thru Namadgi to Shannon's Flat, then the back way in to Cooma, it was cold and blowy, but still better than mowing the grass.
We stopped at Cooma for coffee and a snack at the "biker friendly" cafe, grabbed a fuel top-up, and headed out of Cooma for dirt backroads to Nimmitabel, where we kept going down the Snowy hwy and turned up the Old Bombala rd. We joined the Monaro and shortly turned off down New Line rd, and as the odometer hit 90 k's since Cooma I was thinking "my word, I do feel comfy today". That's when I realised my backpack (containing licence, rego, money, credit cards, keys, etc. ) was still back in Cooma.
So 90k of wasted fuel and around 90 mins lost. Back up the tar we sprint, and there's a sign on the cafe door saying my back pack is with Her Majesty's finest up the road, so off we go to Cooma copshop.
As we enter, the plod is just finishing going through my wallet and itemising everything, so I sign for it and we're off again. Given the lateness of the day we just droned up the tar, and got there a little before dark. Bad news, there's oil on my right leg, and the XR motor is wet with the stuff, bugger! A pub feed, a drink, motoGP qualifyfing, and we're asleep.
Next morning we trace the oil leak to where the head breather hose goes into a welded-on spigot on the frame oil tank, affixed as part of the oil cooler mounting. The spigot is mis-aligned, so's the edge of the long-range tank has finally rubbed the hose away, so luckily there's enough slack to re-cut it and we are good again to go. A fix for when I get home.
We climbed the Brown, then took Steeple Flat rd to Nimmitabel, then from there took Tom Groggin rd, which was great until I crested s slight rise over a cattle grid at 100k's and the darkish dirt on the other side wanted to retain my front wheel, a big slapper there. I love my steering damper.
Fuel at Cooma, then back up the National Park again and it was bloody cold mate, but we got home dead on sunset, a job well done.
So that was how I spent my weekend. It was fine and dandy.
If you feel like doing it all over again, we're off on Thursday morning ...

The Aussie frequencies certainly do vary from those used O/S. Any radio equipment used in Australia must be ACMA (Australian Communications Management Authority) approved...to ensure that the equipment does not inadvertently impact another communication medium i.e. frequencies on the spectrum assigned to emergency services, among others. I'd recommend the first question ask "Is the unit ACMA approved." Other than that, it looks like a nice integrated unit.

AM CB not UHF

I think you'll find it's AM CB not UHF. My wife and I both have these units.

She's used hers extensively on three different bikes communicating with myself and friends on Goldwings (I had a Goldwing ).
I had one on an R1150GS Adventure on a bracket over the clutch cylinder but never got to use it.
Now removed for impending bike sale.

Just a note: You do have to buy a specific headset to use it.

Curious re' Scrambler - how do you find it travels on the dirt roads around CBR? - very nice looking bike, and (allegedly) has a great motor - can you take it out for long days, and maybe tackle some of the lighter fire trails? - a very heavy bike - probably wouldn't want to be wrestling with it too much ...
