The smoke around Yass in pretty horrendous – that fire to the west is obviously still in full force. Hope Baza, Fati and others are OK – only 10km outside the town by the look of it – the breeze doesn’t help, but at least it’s cooler today ... |

I'm suprised I was able to type that. Just got up after a bit of a sleep! Currently around the Yass river as I understand. Is sort of contained but unpredictable

at this stage its pretty cooly dooly. going out early am, the handover info i've got is that the fire is reasonably contained but there is a shitload of timber needs blacking out. if we get a less than favourable wind change all that will change. no need to panic buy at woolies ----------------yet!!!

Just got back from ferrying fire crews too and from Bookam, there are crews from all over the Southern Tablelands and South west Slopes there, a lot of the out of area trucks will probably be pulled out after day shift today to go back to their own stations and protect their local areas. Cool night last night, and good progress was made, you shouldn't see anywhere near as much smoke today. So unless there is an unexpected weather event that fire should be contained, but there are quite a few days mopping up left yet, the landholders, council and electricity companies will have months of work ahead to restore normality. Lets pray we can get through the rest of the fire season without too many more serious fires. i woudn't advise going riding out that way anytime soon, the local people probably wouldn't appreciate sightseers wandering around the place.

Tumut DSMRA ride
Apologies if it's not the thing to do here, I haven't yet covered all the wettique rules. I'll delete if ppl say so, no wukkas.
For anyone interested, the DSMRA has posted a ride to Tumut and back later this month. Listed as "Adventure Bike, pillions OK", so it's probably graded fire trails mostly. I have only known Pete Daley a year, but what I have learnt is that he will probably try and take a harder option if it's available. He'll be lead riding on his Adventure 990 treating it like his GasGas300, from my experience trying to follow him in Deua NP last time. They ride cornerman system, so no-one should get lost. The trails these guys know, expecially Pete, are some pretty good rides. I had a hoot on some of the tracks on the last ride. Only got stuck in a bog once. The bummer is that it is the 27th, which is just the Sunday of the long weekend. Prob be down the coast with the g/f visiting my sick mum, but I'm going to try and swap weekends if I can. Contact details are on the DSMRA website or PM me and I'll send them to you. So this ride would be for people who would like to go for a dirt ride, but are not sure where to go, and like the security of riding in a group with support from other riders. Only requirements is a dirt suitable bike with 150km tank range.

Pete Daley eh? Pillions OK eh?
![]() Don't trust Daley's ride descriptions. Ever. There's more, but not in a public forum.

Fish River Rd
Does anyone (eg Baza?) know whether you can follow Fish River Rd all the way through from Narrawa Rd (southern end) to Old Wheeo Rd? And then continue on this up to the Gunnery-Taylor’s Flat Rd? Looks OK on the satellite view of Google Maps ... Not sure whether some of it is private property – locked gates? |

We'll be riding each day, or thats the plan anyway, from the Numeralla Folk Festival if you want to join in down south. We'll likely head for the coast, maybe a Belowra Wadbilliga loop, but will work it out on the day based on what people's fuel range and needs are. TripodTiger will be here and probably on the Tripod so no harder then that I guess.
