All looking good @ present, hope the rain eases things down the coast, bloody nuisance sitting around looking for smoke,
Then again, it is that time of year, haven't really had a decent hot summer for a few years though,
hope 'Karuah' is dry this year, last time I headed up there it pissed down, and I didn't make it in, hate camping with wet gear [tent was already wet from Moonan Flat on the Friday]

Rain down here, <> 20 mm yesterday, has calmed things down, but still mopping up to do, and containment lines to finish, and some backburning to get it sorted, but hopefully down hill run from here. But of course the necessary backburning can't happen until it dries out a bit

Poor bastards up north copping it now.

I'm another local, halfway between Queanbeyan and Michelago. Thought it was about time I introduced myself. Current rides are KTM 990 Adventure and a venerable Honda XR600 (22 years young and still going strong). G'Day insignis. There are some weekday rides happening most weeks. Hoots tends to be coordinating them at the moment so pm him if you are interested if he hasn't contacted you yet. I'm down Numeralla way and am always keen for a ride. Among other fleet members I have a DR650, FE650, SY250R and 1400GTR so have most types of riding covered. Being retired is supposed to give me more flexibility about when and for how long I go for a ride. I'm also a DSMRA member, and former national VP, so I reckon its worth joining. However most of the guys' interest is with enduro stye riding. We do run some ADV type rides though, known as Big Bore rides, and the Grade 2 ones are OK for experienced riders on 990s and the like too. And a lot of the Big Bore rides are not official DSMRA ones, but just happen because of the networking it provides.

My own bigger ride plans this year revolve around a trip the Flinders for the Classic in early April, that might extend to Tugboat Bill's ceremony at Big Red and a trip to Qld for the TK ride in August. Happy to involve others too.

Ride to Araluen Tuesday 15th

Spurred into action by BergDonk’s message ...

Late notice, but we’ll be doing a ride to Araluen tomorrow via Tallaganda ...

Meeting at the Plains Rd intersection at Hoskinstown a bit before 9:30am – taking North Black Range / Gourock / Bombay FTs, then down to Araluen via Majors Creek ...

Fuel and food at Araluen ...

Back home via Reidsdale / Monga / Charley’s Crossing / Tarago ...

The run through Tallaganda is reasonably steep in places (e.g. Gourock FT) – might be a bit difficult on a big bike – dry season, so creek crossings should be OK – the rest is flowing dirt roads ...

The morning leg is about 140km (Bungendore to Araluen) – afternoon is about 120km (Araluen to Tarago) – fuel Araluen, and more fuel at Tarago if needed for the trip home ...

Let me know if keen – I’ll check PMs till about 9:00 this evening ...

How long would you expect the ride to be? 4 hours?

The ride is effectively all dirt (a few kms sealed) – some of it is dirt road, and the rest fire trails.
We’ll go separate ways home from Tarago.
I expect to get home late arvo – maybe 4:30pm?

Cool. Looks really good.
Just did a big circuit through Tallaganda / Araluen and then back via Bodalla and through the guts of Deua / Wadbilliga on Saturday, organised on another forum, and that has given me a taste for long dirt rides on my KLR.

I've got Anakee 2s on it at the mo, and while they are superb on the road, they sucked somewhat on the fun bits so I'm currently getting some big knobs on for this kind of ride.

Def keen for next one....

Shouldn't be too hard a ride up through there, I'll take 'White Beast' - much more civilised steed, more suited to win cockies over if I find myself in a paddock somewhere!!!
Wanta check out some spare parts up that way, few locals I know,
I may get back in one piece!!!
