Mt Coree? Sounds good, I haven't been there in ages. Pick a day.

I'm keen to finish off the knobbies on my XR at the moment too, but the Mitas StoneCross on the rear just won't die eh.

Tom

How does Sunday 0930 the Uriarra Rd, Brindabella Road T Junction sound?

Just a putt to the top.

WifeSilla has organised a family brekky Sunday am, and the recalcitrants (children) are tardy about getting out of bed at the best of times, so Sunday could be problematic (although not insurmountable she tells me).
Monday could be a good goer. I'l PM you my phone number and we can chat/negotiate.

Misspent Youth Ride

Ok, we wil meet at the Caltex/Woolies servo at Weston Creek/Coolamon Shops at 09:00 for a 09:30 departure.
We will ride to the top of Mt Coree, then make it up from there, but suggested itinery could be McIntyres Hut/Flea Creek/Picadilly Circus/Two Sticks/Home. Just rough suggestions, anything is possible, we can cater for all skill levels and comfort zones.
That should take a leisurely 5 hours or so. These are the old haunts of years gone by (when I was younger. fitter, faster, and almost as handsome) and should be visited at a much more leisurely pace than days gone by, so no pressure.
All welcome, singles with knobs recommended. BYO everything, water and snacks. Fuel range prolly around 120k-ish, I'll have a larger tank and be a tanker for anyone who is short.

I like Mondays, Bob Geldorf is a git.

I'm a non starter then. The F8GS just doesn't comply with the recommendation.
Have a great ride.

Hey Fozzy, sorry to hear you won't be coming. I understand completely though.

I can't guarantee anything about the current condition of the trails as I haven't used them for years, and if it rains, all bets are off. I beleive they are now regularly maintained, but I also have memories of hard-enduro-style climbs and descents when they were ignored previously.

Another day mate.

Was last through Mcintyres & Flea crk last year on Aust. day ( before the big rain event in March that caused a fair bit of damage in that area) in the 4wd. Went into flea crk from Brindabella rd ( cant remember the name of the trail, turn off about 1/2 wy down from Picadilly ) I think singles is a good call, I think the 800/ 950 etc would be a bit of a handful. On another subject just got back from a road ride with Mrs DD & a couple of friends to Wombat Pub for lunch. Can reccommend the counteries, Beer battered whiting, salad/chips $10; burger & chips $7.50

Hi Dennis. The trail you are unable to recall is Gentle Annie (a misnomer if ever there was one ).
Us local just say "Flea Creek", because it's at the bottom. The approach from Webb's Ridge is a good drop too, usually in better nick historically than Gentle Annie from the Brindabella Road side.

Absolutely, another day on another trail.

The GS also has a very worn TKC80 on the front at the moment, so it'd be a handful on anything gnarlier than a well groomed dirt road.

I might have to start agitating, with SWMBO, to invest in a single. I've already used the motorbike or a red convertible car, gold chain & blond girlfriend angle to get the F8GS ...have to come up with a new & equally leading angle to increase the collection.

Memories......

Well, nobody died this morning (though Davo had a think about it he says). Four starters, four finishers, a good result.

A cool start from Weston servo soon turned into a beautiful morning, and the view from Coree was magnificent, we were above the cloud ceiling that was over Canberra and it looked fantastic. I think Davo has a happy snap of it.
Off we trundled to Webbs Ridge via the powerline fire trail, which was a bit rougher than I remembered. Then along Webbs Ridge it was a lot steeper than I remembered. The climb out of Flea Creek was smoother than I remembered.

All up it was a good few hours spent in good company. It was rougher and steeper than I remembered, more like enduro for stretches, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wouldn't want it any snottier though.

And I remember again why I hate rocks.

Indeed it was God. A great morning, a tad more challenging than expected but nobody died and I was home at 1245!

Canberra cloud band.
