One tyre wrapped in cling wrap, so as not to dirty Ms Australia Post's hands, 15 bucks to Sydney from Yass. That's just an example but Aust Post will do em.
Cheers

I understand KTM has a truck or more enroute at least once a week. How well do you get on with CMC?

and no I haven't done much business with CMC, preferring to either support the "small guys" or do it myself... thanks for the idea though :)

I've got tyres from these guys in the past and they used AP and it wasn't any more I recall. If they have a contract, perhaps they might assist?

Goodwill. They can only say no, and maybe if you have a good look at their site, you might find something to negotiate packaging them with.

I'd just take a tyre into the post office, and ask them to weight it and give you a quote for postage to Perth - it'll be the same in reverse ...

Gps

I used a garmin 600 for years with the garmin maps but find it too hard to see nowadays. It's also really hard to plan anything as you can't get both big picture of area and detail of trails. I planned on my PC and downloaded but when I hit something like a locked gate it was really hard to work out an alternative route.

The garmin died and I have switched to my iPad in a rugged griffin case running Hema maps. It works great has all the Hema and 1:25000 maps and is easy to plan and use in the field. The big 10 inch display works great. It also connects to my sena for music and gives me internet search etc when in towns with phone coverage.

Overall much easier to use and way more versatile. Only real issue is I take it off if really pissing down but can live with that...

Maybe not cheap but certainly free...
Ride over there on your last Kms of existing tyre life, ... put the newie's on, then ride back?

Mt Ginni

Took the new engine for its first proper ride out yesterday... lovely day so a nice easy trip to Mt Ginni along the Mt Franklin road.

Wildflowers were out....

As usual great views from the peak...

Came across this little fella

Road surface has definitely degraded since I was there last, a good few months ago now. There are a lot more larger loose rocks and one almost threw me off, although it did go some way to straightening my front suspension!

It's a nice ride out there, wonderful scenery. Very little traffic, although what little of it there was tried to kill me... twice...

There was some construction work right at the end of Mt Franklin Rd, so twice I was passed by big trucks coming the opposite way.... first one I saw, so pulled off and let it past. The second came upon me around a corner... it was going fast and taking up 75% of the road. If I hadn't been on the extreme left I'd be paste right now.... Nothing like a spike of adrenaline.

On the way back out... on the sealed part of Brindabella Rd, some fucktard in his heavily modified 4WD was not just over the line around a corner, he was on my side of the road... at a closing speed of well over 160kmh. Glad I don't carry a gun.

A bee or similar came in through my visor at one point, minor sting... haha sure is a fun activity....

So, first proper ride after rebuild. Only issue I have is running hotter than before although I am led to believe that this is normal, and "may" ease up after I run in the engine.

The rider however needs to remember how to negotiate loose rocky downhills with confidence again. Always been my weakness and I need to relearn this one.

My rear tyre... a Pirelli Scorpion Trail (so-called) doesn't seem to handle the loose rocky gravel roads as well as the old (now non-existent) Anakee 2. It lost traction quite a few times on the windy Brindabella Rd dirt, which is a really crappy surface, although was fine on the Mt Franklin Rd. I'm wondering how much influence the rear tyre has on rocky downhills....

My front, Pirelli Scorpion Rally has 7000km on it now, but still enough tread to always have grip. I'm pretty happy with that tyre. Shame there is no matching rear for my bike.
