Adirondack Day Trip

We set out in 10 C temps this morning, and hit the Canada/US border around 09:30.
Destination: Tupper Lake, circle tour around Adirondack State Park.

Met a guy from Rochester heading towards Montreal.
We were all stopped for gas and there was a steady cold drizzle.
He was heading the way we came, and wanted to know about the road ahead, which we declared clear just a few miles north.
Same was reported a few miles south, so there was no need for rain gear, nice.

Just a few miles short of Tupper Lake, when I remembered my camera.

While we were stopped to take a photo, a bunch of bikes went by honking.
We caught up to them for lunch in Tupper Lake, they were from our town!

Don't take my picture!

Tupper Lake

After lunch, we wound our way back north, along Rte 30.
Turning off at Paul Smiths, we decided to take Keeses Mill Rd to Blue Mountain Road.
A local rider goes past during a photo break, that's a good sign.

Never trust a side road.
The lovely pavement turns to dirt, then to sand, then to a snowmobile trail...yuck.

At least there was some nice scenery.

Back on pavement (finally), we discovered some low flying clouds going over the mountains.

The rest of the ride was uneventful, except maybe the grumpy border guard on our side.
Usually it's the other way around, but today we had a nice friendly guy going over, the opposite coming back...go figure.

It was a good day.

Nice!

I almost went to the Adirondacks myself this morning, but I decided to play it safe as I've been messing with the bike all week and finally got it all back together yesterday. For me, it would have been a 10+ hr ride there and back with some local touring, and I didn't want to take a chance that something might fall off along the way. Instead, I took a little 150 mile tour around the county, and since nothing fell off I'll be taking on the Adirondacks next weekend. Day tripping, of course.

BTW, nice foliage pics. Have hardly any around here, in SW NH.

very nice

Nice pics! Excellent foliage, I prefer the early season flavors.

Foliage has popped out all around us here in Vt in Mt Mansfield area.

We're planning a Adirondack Ride next weekend weather permitting, fabulous road over that way.

I was out there on Sunday myself...

I came across the SE corner of the Adirondacks on Sunday myself as part of the return leg of my "New Mexico to New England on the New MilleDue" trip (RR to come after I get home). Never having seen New England fall colors, some of the hillsides literally took my breath away. Just stunning.

Currently hanging out at East Meredith, NY at a friend's place till Tuesday morning, when I head towards State College, PA where I am to search for my wife's childhood home.

Thanks for the kind words.
I love photographing terrific places, but I enjoy riding so much, it's a challenge to stop and capture the images!
Here's a couple photos from close to home.

A back road north of Brockville, ON.

I took this photo a few years ago with medium format equipment, and always liked how the road seems to say "Ride through here!".

A weir dam at Edmonds Lock, part of the Rideau Canal. It's pretty much in my backyard, great place to go and throw a line in once in a while.

PS: If you look closely, you can see someone fly fishing.

Cheers!
