Transporting beer

Stop for ice close to the end of the day. Beer goes in the backpack. Transfer to ice on arrival. I always have a small or medium backpack with me (light weight) since you never know when a good sammich or beer presents itself.

Labor Day 2010 I rode solo into the central Oregon desert for a one night camp and was to meet up with friends in their RV's for four more days of camping.

Packed very light as I was only tent camping the first night. Stopped at the last store and got an 18 pack of cold beer and placed in the top box, wrapped in my fleece jacket and vest (yes it's a medium sized Samsonite luggage box). It was another hour ride on dirt roads to the campsite. The beer was still drinkable when arriving at camp.

Had several cold ones, set up camp and had another in the shade of the bike. It was still sunny and the weather was still warmer than I enjoy. Enjoyed sitting on the box of cold beer with my back against the side cover of the bike having a beer and chips and salsa.

Woke up a little before dark and decided to go for a short ride around the neighborhood. It was about 10 miles and made a nice loop back to camp. Saw many jack rabbits and enjoyed the ride.

None of the beers ruptured, but was riding gently to preserve the valuable liquid payload. Met up with the friends the next day and enjoyed more beer with them. Had sent more beer with them in the truck/camper to keep my weight down.

Bottles are bad (beer blows past the caps), and I'd avoid the pressurized cans - like the Guinness the OP had issues with as well.

Cans - otherwise generally O.K., and home brewed beer in reusable plastic bottles (which usually isn't as fizzy as commercial stuff) handled even dirt roads just fine.

I have a DL (AKA 2 wheeled pickup truck) so I throw an eski (insulated box) into the top box and put a couple of 3/4 full bottles of ice in with the beer. Keeps the beer cold and gives you cold water to take the edge off the hangover in the morning ;).

Went to grab a sixer on the way home from work and these were on sale for $7 a case. I couldn't resist. I just got my dualsport so I haven't had the chance to pack for camping on the bike YET. Lots of good info here. Thanks guys.

After stopping for beer we only had to go another 20 miles or so, this worked fine

This thread seems to have all the basic information the average inmate needs to properly ride. We call this dualsporting because those last few miles to the camp are usually dirt. I like to pack a few beers in my stomach in the last town so they don't explode on the way to camp. This helps out when setting up after dark too! By the time we get into the Jim Beam plastic traveler, the campfire is warm, the shish ka bobs are sizzling and the last of the ice gets used up just before retiring to recharge for another day of riding!

Love me some Blue moon. What's the other variety there?

Looks like the Spring/Summer seasonal Blue Moon. I like them all, but the seasonals are never as good as regular 'Moon.

I agree but I've never tried a lot of the seasonal brews. I"m a recent beer convert. hehe

Just depends on your tastes. In my book, Blue Moon is a VERY light flavored/hopped beer...it's the one I usually recommend that my wife tries when we are out.

That was NOT a dis to any Blue Moon lovers as I do enjoy it, you just have to learn that every beer has it's own merits and soon you will be craving an Amber, APA, IPA, or Porter depending on the day...or season.
