What's to do in Scottsdale, AZ?

Coming to a two-day conference in February, staying at the Talking Stick but can't abide the evening "networking" crap so where are the cool places to hang out?

Shoot me a PM when you are in town and I'll show you the underbelly of Scottsdale. I'll take you to a dingy biker pub with lots of Brit-bike nostalgia, punk on the jukebox and $1 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Head over to GoAZ and look at the nice toys. The best part is that they usually have a Go-Daddy type girl working up front. There is a HD dealer close by that has a few matured Go-Daddy types. Scottsdale has hundreds of nice places to eat, just depends whether you are on a KLR budget or a BMW budget.

Also, if you gamble, the Indian Casinos are not regulated. You have no idea what the slot payouts are, unlike Atlantic City where they have to be 90% or higher.

Not KLR but keeping an eye on the cost.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I like his recommendations. I was also thinking of Greasewood Flats up in Pinnacle Peak. It's a unique sort of Arizona experience you won't see anywhere else. Outdoor seating, 55 gallon barrels with fires to warm you, picnic tables, live music, the stars, etc...

There's Cave Creek too, which still has that desert feel to it and a lot of interesting things to see this time of year.

I was in two minds whether to rent a car from the airport rather than a couple of 15 mile taxi rides but this suggests I'd get some value from it right?

Recommended: Papago Brewery (where you can drink Four Peaks), Carlsbad Tavern, and Citizen Public House.

Be wary: AZ has tough DUI laws (0.08% BAC) and I've seen someone arrested for 1 drink (charges eventually dropped but a hassle nonetheless). Cabbing it from TS to Old Town should only be $10 each way.
