Pick up GA34 at Newnan off I85 which turns into AL22 @ GA line to Alexander City join US280 toward Bham and join AL 119 to come into Barber from the southeast. There is one more turn off of AL119 but I do not know the road name.

Here's a nice route I came up a couple years ago. It starts in Douglasville near Arbor Place Mall. It takes you all back roads from there. There is no gravel, but it does traverse some pretty rural secondary AL roads. You also get to enjoy Hwy 25 right before Barber.

I just posted it in this new thread I started - http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=624438

281 is also called the scenic route to the top of Cheaha Mountain, Alabama's highest point. It is a great ride all by itself and is a good diversion between Atlanta and Barber's. It runs south from US 78, just west of Heflin, AL, to the top of the mountain. The road from the top of the mountain to AL 21 near Talladega is much narrower and more curvy. It also is not in the same condition as 281.

There are plenty of good roads in that area. Hwy. 78 roughly parallels I20 and used to be the main route between B'ham and Atlanta. It's not too bad but not terribly exciting.

We rode AL 21/US231 from Montgomery to Sylacauga and up 280 to see the AMA Superbike races this past weekend. 280 is a good road but can be pretty congested.

Ride safe

Thanks everybody

We'll see what happens this Sunday, if anyone wants to ride with a RAT pack (triumph dudes) we're meeting this Sunday at Freedom Powersports off of 41 in Kennesaw, GA at 7:50 a.m., then riding someway to get there.
