Noyah: If you ever said where the (apparently) three different aluminum tanks in your pictures came from, I never saw it. Looks like they are all different. Were they fabricated locally? Looks like a great solution for adding range without width.

Its homemade :
I'm sure your local fabricator will be able to make one using stock airbox for messure.
I can post some numbers if it will help.

I'm about to make a few tanks to sell, I'm located in Sweden tho :)

Noyah: Just needed to know if if your tank was locally made or not. Nice work, regardless! I've got access to some very good fabricators in my area (aviation company) so I think I'll just size up my air box and let them work it out. Not cheap I'm guessing, but a nice solution. Thanks for your help. Others may like to get your measurements or if anyone with the skills would like to fab up a few, I suspect there would be takers.

Question: Yours appears to feature fairly heavy wall thicknesses? Was that because they were easier to weld that way or because you thought you needed that much thickness for the structural integrity of the tank?

I bought a very similar version (minus toolbox) from Bobzilla (he made a few of them) a while back and it looks like it started life as a section of 6" square aluminum box tube. It looks like it was just "pie cut" down the sides and then welded back together to follow the contour of the underside of the seat pan. Mine holds exactly 1.25 gallons. It appears to be .125" thick. There are aluminum tabs at each corner that have tapped holes so it can be bolted in in the same manner as the OEM airbox. Other than the filler neck, there is a threaded bung welded to the bottom right/rear corner that has a 90* barbed fitting with a hose that attaches to the rear fuel cap vent hose and allows it to pull a siphon as the rear tank fuel level drops. There is another threaded bung welded to the top front/ right with a 90* barbed fitting that acts as the vent for both tanks, I use a check valve in this section of hose to prevent fuel leaks/sloshing during hard riding and tipovers.

This setup has been working flawlessly for me for thousands of miles of heavy offroad use and general dualsporting. Any decent Fabricator should have no problems making their own version of this and it would probably be best for them to have a bike to fit it to as a jig so measurements ahead of time are not so important, that being said, what other measurements do you want?

J: That is a really sweet looking setup. It looks like it might be possible for the notoriously weak seat pan to ride on the top of your tank too. Is that what yours does? Is that a KTM filter your using? What about remapping? I have a Wings on the way and am running the Uni dual filter in the stock box and am hoping not to have to remap. With the Wings and the single filter and your tank, should I still expect not to have to remap?

Do you have a link or photo of the check valve you are using?

Seems as though the location of the filter and air intake would be somewhat restrictive? I'm running the full Akra system with header.

Would tying into the rear vent nipple be the only way to feed into the rear tank from the auxillary?

Between those pics and Noya's this is very helpful and much appreciated. Thanks!
