2013 KTM 690 Enduro - Rally Raid Evo 2

First post - been lurking too long - after 5 years with my Gas Gas EC300 have bitten the bullet big style and plan to do some Rallies in next couple of years - thinking Transanatolian in Turkey, perhaps adventure class to begin. Inlfluenced by all your posts am now proud owner of a beast of a bike sorted by John @ Rally Raid Products.

This is spec he has built - and I had to sort it out in one go or the money I've saved will fritter away.

I've got a 1 inch kouba link and lost dog sent me a stand that is sized between the E model and the R model heights. The rear tire flys 1/2 inch off level concrete. Works great.

It takes a (very)little muscle to get her up on the stand, unlike say a Beemer, you have to pull it up a bit rather than just rock it back. Easily done even loaded for bear.

Some Iphone video footage going up what was quite a steep Welsh stony track near Barmouth / Machynlleth - for my sins I'm cream crackered and let the local Welsh boys who have been out with me on their 2 stroke enduros and both more skilled and fresh as daffoldils show me how it is done. On my EC300 I do this in a doddle.

Need to get a more enduro based tyre if doing more of this stuff.

I still find the 690 to be a difficult bike on steep hills, where there is a lot of loose rock - the loose rock is thing that makes it difficult - I'm talking about serious hills ...

I was doing this just this morning - like you, hills that are OK on other bikes ...

Much improved with a trials rear tyre (MT43), but difficult nonetheless ...

Got bucked off pretty hard today, there was a decent size branch on the apex of a slippery dirt corner and ended up high siding it landing on my head. Collected the handle bar with my thigh which is bruising up nicely.
Good thing is I have some footage, will post it when I figure how to trim it down some.

Bent brake lever and new steering damper didn't help

bent rear brake lever

Just a few scratches and twisted forks (fixed now) + some bent levers. And one sore body.. All good fun though hey??

Glad you're OK.

Do you find it easier to use the rear brake with that twist?

Cheers,

Anyone ever try a short lever for the foot brake

When I tried to straighten out the bend it snapped. Had a friend suggest this . I now have about four hundred miles on it and growing while waiting on the billet lever to get here.
