California to Nevada, Utah, Arizona and back.

This is the first ride report I’ve submitted, so go easy, guys/gals - I'll try to keep it entertaining to read and look at.

Here’s the forward:
For the last couple of years, I’ve done the group ride of 5-12 days with some guys that, to say the least have unique personality qualities (don’t we all?). I pride myself in my ability to get along with just about everyone, except assholes. So, my circle of friends is very eclectic, but the bottom line is, we all love to ride and see things and places we’ve never seen before. That’s what it’s all about, right?

Well, each year, one of these friends, Jim, develops and coordinates the annual moto adventure – despite his insistence that he is not the “Trip Leader.” From an outsider’s perspective, there is no doubt Jim is, indeed the “Trip Leader.” He is by far the most anal, meticulous, over-analyzing, and qualified person I know to assume the role of “Trip Leader” due to his organizational and logistical skills.

Last year, we tripped to B.C., Canada to ride the Kettle Valley Railway bed (and piss off the local bicyclists whose rights and opinions seem trump everyone else’s in the whole freakin’ world). I don’t know which was more satisfying, the ride and seeing the beautiful scenery, or seeing the look of helpless frustration on the average “save the planet” bicyclist’s face as we passed them on the old rail bed. Apologies if you’re one of them.

This year, Jim recommended our annual trip take us from the California Gold Country Foothills to Nevada’s Great Basin National Park; Utah’s Moab, Manti-La Sal National Forest, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, and Grand Staircase; Arizona’s Toroweap (on the North Rim), Flagstaff, Sedona, Quartermaster Point (at the bottom of the Grand Canyon); then we start back home while hitting Death Valley and the ghost town of Bodie, among other spots. We're all-in, of course.

So for about about 8-9 nights spent mostly on the ground, we'll be moto-tripping through some of God's most dramatic and beautiful country. I’ve attached maps of the Utah and Arizona legs for those whose interest is piqued – the green or yellow highlights are pavement, while the orange highlights designate dirt. By dirt, I mean dirt conquerable on a fully loaded GS or GS Adventure – which we all ride.

Our trip begins Monday, September 27, o'dark-thirty. Pictures and reports will be posted daily, as Wi-Fi is available from coffee stops, etc.

NOTE 2: As this is another boy's trip, my favorite little Moto-Camper has to stay in school and miss this one...

T-Minus 10 hours and counting...

In case any of you didn't believe me about Jim, here's his Itinerary - which I will do my damnedest to sabotage, just to fuck with him. Sorry for the iPhone pic quality.

And the rig is ready to go. Sorry I couldn't get everything into one duffle bag, Biava.

Damn, looks like you're packed for a month's worth. Orange riders travel much lighter......and faster!
