Perhaps BMW solution should be different:
Add or extend the plastic cover for the tank (the colored parts on both sides of the tank). That way no one sees the crack (which is claimed to not leak because fuel is contained in an internal bladder). What the eyes don't see the heart doesn't feel. Out of sight, out of mind. Problem solved (until someone removes the plastics...).

They have 5 on order at my local dealer. 2 for the bikes sitting on the show room floor, and 3 for us that have noticed them.

I wasn't going to sweat it, because it really doesn't bother me, but after seeing how long they have let the problem go unresolved, I plan on ordering new parts everytime they crack. That's the only way they'll actually fix it. If it starts costing them more money than it does to ignore it.

these bikes have been out for 5 years. Do you really think they'll fix them now since it's only been reported in the US? Dream on

Thanks ... but ... naw ... screw it ............

My replacement tank is outside the 2-year warranty so I'm on my own,
I think it's better if I don't know ..........

Take a look at the photo and comment on F800 forum re: the F700gs.

Pissed Waiting for my third tank...

My third tank is on order, this will be the second "improved" design with a different part number than the original. My F800GS is a 2012 that I only have 2200 miles on.

What are the part numbers for the "new improved version" vs the old improved version. Id like to know for sure if I am getting the new version when mine gets swapped.

thanks

Max BMW is still listing the following:

Tank P/N: 16117704798 was superseded by 16117704799

The 799 is the tank p/n they installed for me under warranty two freaking years ago ...

If there is a newer improved P/N let us know .... eh?

Didn't I read somewhere that F 700 tanks are cracking on the floor..

Point being..what does it matter what part number you get..nothing is fixed..

Same old BMW...
