investment in the future

Just wanted to say I enjoyed the report very much and wanted to share our own experience. Back in 1980 when when my wife was 6 months pregnant with our first we would never miss a BMW National rally but the airlines would not take due to her advanced stage of pregnancy so off on the R90/6 we went for the 3000 mile ride down to Tennessee from Canada. On every decent down the Blue Ridge the little guy would push his feet out to brace the decent. It was a wonderful but very hot rally, slept in the tent and we participated in all the field events. Now 3 decades later I still enjoy riding with my son although he is no longer on the pillion seat but in the front of that very same old BMW.
Moral of the story its good to break them in early, you will have a lifetime of rewards!

Time moves on...

This ride report of mine is long since ancient history, and Kate and I aint doing any big trips these days. But in case anyone stumbles across this little story, Alana and Benji (the twins who came along inside Kate) just turned one and got their first bikes (well, trikes) from their grandparents last week. They love it.

Next week i'm getting a priceless gift from Kate for surviving a year of fatherhood. I'm pulling the panniers and camping gear out of the attic, loading the BMW Dakar with the paraglider on the rear rack and heading up the back roads to the hunter valley for a week of riding and flying. Yee Ha

Excellent adventure Doug, really enjoyed reading about it.
My girlfriend and I will be in vietnam next march, we were hoping to do a similar trip.
Could you give us an idea what the bikes cost? Or better still what the whole trip cost?
thanks, Best of health to your family,
