Helmet, Advice Needed

I need to replace my trusty AGV helmet and I am seeking advice on the type best suited to adventue riding, in the past my road helmet has been used in all codes of riding, but maybe a change of thinking is required.

I have read a few reports on the lids with the verandah and most have been negitive with regards to wind buffetting, is this so? An important factor in my next lid will be noise suppression and weight, ear plugs aren't good for my lug holes.

What do you use?

Cheers

quiet, nice snug fit, not expensive.

when trying them on, the sizing is a bit different to some brands so make sure you try them.
get the size that feels "just" too tight as they seem to break in a bit more then my other helmets have over the years. once broken in though they are bloody comfortable. i didnt even get a headache during the break in period.

the liners are fully removable so can be washed, and the visor is a nice thick one and isnt flimsy.

the beak on the lid doesnt drag your head on the highway as there are some pretty decent vents at the back, its also adjustable pitch.
i have found that opening the visor on the highway drags your head more then having the beak on.

I also got an AGV road helmet I use on the DR when commuting.
check out helmet warehouse online. Its in the east somewhere. Have a good range and I was impressed with their service. Bought a vemar flip there a few months back. Love it. It has a tinted screen inside the clear screen, and both screen can open as well as the chin lift up. So when Im heading into the sun, I put the tinted screen down and open the chin which then acts like a visor. But last time I looked at helmet warehouse it doesnt seem like they stock them any more.

i had a zues dual sport helmet and loved it until traveling on a road road train came the other way the wind caught the peak and snapped my head back leaving me with tingling figures and toes and laid up in hospital with a suspected broken neck i was lucky it was only a really bad whiplash and i had 6 weeks off the bike
i now ride with a shark rsr2 which is carbon fibre and Kevlar construction nice and light and doesn't bounce round in the wind

i was a huge fan of the dual sport type helmet but now i would say if you are only ever going to take back roads then yep otherwise don't get a peak
just my 2 cents

I only ride with a MX helmet and the peak has never been a problem. I do however get on the other side of the road and dip my head when a truck is coming.

I have a RJ's Dakar as well & personally I thinks its crap. Only worn it once. Heavy & the visor distorts vision to the sides. But it was cheap so can't expect much else. One of my mates just bought an Arai dual sport helmet & loves it but it did cost a tad more.

Have been using a Nolan N-Com for a while. Brilliant in that the flip face is handy as anything alot of the time, downside is the noise factor.
Now I just got myself a Shoei Hornet and talk about chalk and cheese in the noise factor department. Haven't found an issue with the peak yet and as others have said I wander over to the other side of the road and dip my head when semi's / roadtrains go past. Not only for the wind factor but also for the chance of something getting flung up into my face.

Shoei hornet DS

I use the shoei hornet. I love this helmet. It's light and has excellent peripheral vision. super comfy and resists fogging better than any helmet I've owned in the cold weather.
I find it quieter than my shark street bike helmet...

Zeus 2100B
Rjay's Dakar

The Zeus was fine, the only problem is that the lining is falling apart, but it did a couple of years, lots of k's.

Rjay's - the peak is crap unless you remove the cute extension (rattles !). Otherwise seems better than the Zeus - gets the #1 position because it's VERY resistant to fogging - best high humidity helmet I've ever owned. Also a good choice if you wear glasses.

Wind buffeting is more usually to do with the bike's screen and sometimes a strong headwind.

I can sit all day with an Arai XD helmet at !30 because I've got a low screen that directs air to my chest.
It does however get wind noise but I always wear earplugs.

The only thing I've found that stops wind noise on any helmet is a neck scarf pushed underneath the helmet but even then I still wear earplugs.

So just get any helmet that you like as I don't think there is any magical formula to quietness, but you may have to adjust your screen and get used to earplugs
