It would be a crime to cover those welds with paint...looks like $1000 in dimes laying down in a row.

After some high-test is in me, I play with the bender and fab up some hoops with 5/8" DOM.

Standoff brackets made from 5/8" x .120" DOM and 3/16" flat bar.

Some assembly required.

I'm taking a bit of a departure from the ones I made for JimVB.

I've learned to angle the hoops to the same degree as the OEM rack. I have an idea to make an adjustable jig that I can bolt to the roll-around MC lift. It will make alignment easier and more accurate. I just need to sit down and draw it. Then I know I can make it.

3/16" flat bar.

3/8" hardware.

Jim had made the comment that these should be welded on the backside. I thought that was a very good idea, so that's what I do.

One side mocked-up.

Now for the other side. Lunchtime is over. Time to get back to it.

Right side goes together very well.

Cross bar tabs are then welded in place. I weld 3/8" hardware to the back of the tabs as well.

After my afternoon coffee break, I will finish the cross bar and then diassemble everything for final weld-up and rounding of all mounting tabs.

That hurts. Especially since I just had to add inch hardware to mine.

BTW, inch or metric, I love these things:

They like to stay aligned, and there's a lot more meat on them so you can really burn into them without messing up the threads. Like anyone needs another excuse to order from mcmaster.
