I'm going to make a portable gantry lift. Think large swingset with A-frame ends. Should be a very, very useful tool.

I accidentally picked up a fab job today....

Luckily, I drove the truck to work today instead of the bike. Good thing, because there is now one less Bambi.

The damage is confined to my Tundra's passenger side front bumper.

State farm is cutting me a check to do the repairs myself. Nice! I'm going to attempt to make a nice looking, deer smashing, chunk of metal for my truck. The Tundra isn't exactly a heavy-duty truck, so I'm going to make it out of aluminum if possible. I will likely paint it to match the truck.

Anyone have any good sources for pre-bent aluminum tube? I don't have any large dies yet, plus I have a manual ratchet bender, so I doubt I can bend 2" by hand even if I had the dies...

Should be a very interesting project. My buddy at work told me that my bumper will be the guinea pig and if it turns out well, he wants one. Works for me!

And thank you very much for your offer. I'm sure I will be picking your brain on things as I go along.

That's exactly what I'm thinking I've seen most people use them was an engine hoist. Make a bad a**deer killing bumper so you don't have to ever worry again

Yeah, I'm going to hunt down an I-beam so I can put the hoist on a trolley.

Insurance is supposed to cut me a check tomorrow, so I'll buy some plate and tube and get cracking.

How's Wyotech treatin' you? Doing any hands-on yet?

Thanks! That was two years ago, but I use the table every single week. Nothing fancy, but it gets me off the floor anyway.

My garage keeps getting smaller and smaller. I'd like to build a larger, solid top table if I had more space.

How about making a bracket to mount a high front fender (supermoto or xtreme MX) on a WeeStrom?

I'm sure it could be arranged, but I don't have anything to fab to, and you don't look like you're a very close distance to me.

better late than never

I meant to post these pics months ago when we finished the project...but time got away from me.

My son and I picked up some material from Kirk a long time ago and used it to build a coal forge and an anvil stand.

Here's a pic of my son's first time using a welder:

Finished anvil stand with tool hangers

First fire in the new forge:
forge_fire

The new coal forge is hot enough for us to make Damascus

thanks again for all the metal! we had a great time using it to make some cool stuff.

phreakingeek screwed with this post 10-12-2012 at 11:26 AM Reason: fixed the pics
