Continuing west from Oark we hit a newly paved section of road, parts are still gravel, getting ready to be paved. I stop too quick to take a picture and Chris barely misses me trying to slow down, gotta be careful out here. I always feel weird stopping in the middle of the road for pictures but sometimes they turn out alright.

This time of year is awesome although it is starting to get chilly at night especially if you don't have a windbreaker under a mesh riding jacket!

Continuing to ride we find a peaceful farm at the start of a neat mountain road. An old plow (i think) caught my eye.

The light was strong and I was glad to be riding out front, getting hard to see in the evenings especially with dust.

I see a curious clearing with some old equipment. I wonder if there are tanks buried under the ground....

This tree was sweet. Chris and I had just traded places so there was a lot of dust in the air and I was afraid it would mess up the shot. Looks neat with the sunbeams in the dust!

We come up on a new looking water pumping station. Chris is looking at the large green painted holding tank and exclaims that it looks like the paint is moving. I look at it too and sure enough the paint seems to be collapsing in on itself rapidly in bursts.

I've seen it before when you get dust in your eyes, next time you get dust in your eyes from riding or mowing the lawn close your eyes and you will see it in the darkness. We also think it is partly from tunnel vision on the trails, our brains are compensating for the rapidly moving environment (moving outward while riding) and when we stop things seem to be moving inward. It was very striking.

Soon we are out on some paved roads trying to make it back to the truck. I know Chris hates pavement but it was really pretty.

A quick picture of a narrow bridge, we were riding into the sun that evening.

The road takes us to HWY 40 and I see a route back to the truck on a road that parallels 40 on the south side. We cross under and are met with a true hidden gem!

We ride it across and then I turn around and Chris goes back for some pics. Here is Chris going back.

Here he is coming towards me, this is our original direction, westward. There is even more water behind him but it is in the shade so it didn't produce a good pic.

This is the road headed west directly after the puddles, a lot of fun!!!

Here is a map to this section of road, don't be fooled by the benign sections leading to this point.

And so ends our recent journey through Arkansas... It was fun and I will be relieved when I get my bike out of the shop!

When you leave the Oark store and get to the intersection where you turned right to follow the Mulberry river valley you could have gone straight on pavement to Clarksville. A lot of people take that road and cross the mountain for it's great twisties and return back over the mountain to the Mulberry.

Man, seeing an F8GS without her beak is a sad sight to behold.

At least you didn't break the headlight. I broke mine and it set me back $400ish. I know the side panels are far from cheap, trust me when I say, I feel your pain.

When are we going to see tracks? R-Kansas is not so far from me.

True Coder, I think my bike looks sad too Let's hope the insurance company is kind to her (I'm waiting on the second quote at the moment).

Also, I do need to post some tracks!!!

Here is the file which includes:
- Tracks from the actual trip
- Intended routes (these are cool, we didn't get to do it all though)
- Waypoints from potential remote camp sites

When you study the intended routes you will see some "dead ends", these are in fact not dead ends but you can continue on until you meet the route again, I haven't figured out how to get garmin to route me over open space yet (tips?).

Here is a screen shot of the intended route (pink) and actual tracks (black and dark pink) laid over each other.

You can see I was rather ambitious when I was planning the route. I think with less bike problems (Chris' fuse, my crash, starting late, etc) we could have made it but we were out just having fun.

Here is a close up of the tracks with some road names.
