Looks like we are going to push the "Return to the Berkshires" ride a weekend. Not a lot of camping space available and I want to stick near computer access to see if my Colorado house burns down. Probably still do a local ride one of the days... we can still talk about riding in this thread ... right???

hey, good luck with that. How close is it to you? I saw the map a few days ago and the fire was pretty close then.
Hate to see the luxury guest accommodations going up in flames

this is Woodland Park, my place would be just off the frame, bottom middle.

Yikes! If it gets to your place, looks like it will have to take out the whole town first...

Wow. I'm seeing thundershowers in the forecast for Woodland Park. Hope they get them!

I think part of the issue with many of these large-scale forest fires is that they are so large, and so hot that much of the rain that will or could fall from clouds in the sky evaporates before it reaches ground level, can anyone else confirm (or deny) this?

Did you do the CCCofVT ride last Sunday? As co-trailboss of the BBA, I might trade a follow this route with me and I'll follow the VT route with you.

Hell, If we camped somewhere in the middle, we could do one on a Sat and the other on Sunday.

thunderstorms really dont help and can hurt quite a bit.. what is needed is a sustained rain.. the high winds associated with a thunderstorm front are what actually caused the massive fire storm two nights ago that destroyed over 300 homes on the eastern edge of this fire. Things got better over last night, but still only 5% contained.

I did not know that. Better watch what I wish for...
I'm also wondering if the fire is blocking the main egress to Colorado Springs?

Yeah Highway 24 is completely shut down between WP and CS .. it is the highway you see running to the top of the photo. Only way out is West on 24 towards Cripple Creek, or north on 67, towards ?? I am watching a briefing from WP online right now and the news is better today. As you can see the fire is in the ridge lines above the city, and apparently fire does not like to burn downhill quickly, I guess that makes sense. So they are using Hwy 24 as a block to ensure the fire does not get into the ridgelines that would lead it uphill towards WP. The other thing I have going for me is that my house seems to have a lot of open space around it.. if I was smart like rhodehazard I would post a google maps picture of where it is at.

If we were smart like Rhodehazard, we'd be out rockin' the 990ADV, and not hanging around at work...
