Canon 6D camera, Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens. Exposure 1 second, f/2.8, iso3200 with the lens set at 145mm. These new full-frame DSLR cameras take nice low noise pics even at high ISO settings and longer exposure times.

Moon was just a sliver tonight, the bright appearance is due to the exposure needed to capture the dim comet. See post #4201 above for a realistic pic of the moon tonight.

Thanks for posting that picture. I've been meaning to look for the comet but I keep forgetting.

I've been thinking about getting a DSLR again but even basic photography can be a more expensive hobby than riding motorcycles in the woods. I can't afford any additional hobbies!

I had a decent DSLR set up for a while and there are a number of options I've missed having even though I've also owned a couple of fairly "high end" point and shoot cameras that offer a lot of manual controls.. The ability to swap out lenses for different purposes is huge, that feature also lends to the ability to control depth of field amongst other things.. The "bulb" or long exposure option is almost non-existent in point + shoot cameras.. Slave flashes, remote shutter triggers, etc all end up leading to a lot of money spent for a few great photos..

While I'd love to have photos of my travels that rival ones such as this:

For the most part I can't afford the camera gear and the ride.. In that case I'll lean towards affording the ride every time..

Nothing against photography oriented members! I would love to have better documentation of my travels but for the time being I'll be relying on a Canon point and shoot with some decent manual options or my iphone + instagram in worst case scenarios!

Awesome shot Terry!

I am so relieved that you finally found a hobby that won't get you arrested for exposure.

Need a camping fix?

me and the cheesebot will be camping at Shawme-Crowell State Forest in Sandwich, MA for Easter (Thursday - Sunday). There's great (legal) sand riding on the other side of the bridge. Pete the ranger is very cool with the bikes.

We're not planning anything but feel free to join us. The campground has yurts available (we're tenting it), running water, heated bathroom with free hot water showers.

Interesting.

And I do want to get better at handling the beast in sand...
