Well Gene,

Officially, got a trip planned in the next couple of weeks. Bought a truck in Idaho. I am planning on a 10 day trip to bike out with my wife and trailer the bike back. I figure a few stops here, there, Yellow Stone, and back.

Really stoked! to get Karen out on the bike for a good sound tour. Preping in progress.

So does that mean I will have to start a new thread.

It's like this Mark ..... NOPE!
I think the folks would love to hear and see about your adventures returning back to "the Mountains of the East"! It will make it easy for me to, to not have to trace down your thread! You know how directionally challenged some of us old people are ! So No Please feel free to post away.
I my self am coming back out of the garage and looking to post some more stuff up ..... like what I already have to put up a littler later tonight.

Finally

I found a rode, ... therefore I did!

take 40 east out of Cumberland to "Little Orleans Road" north into PA where it becomes rt 26. It leads you to PA 484 aka "Buck Valley Road" east. East bound will take you to "Warfordsburg" and rt 522, but before you get there you will pass through a community known as "Lashley". A must see sight is what looks like to me an old Country Store! ...

To me it was reminiscent of an old Western. In my mind's eye I can see the front porch with the supporting pillars and open steps. Josey Wales had just came out, and leaned on on of the pillars and lit his hand rolled cigaret! That's the great thing about riding around these har hills. There are sights like this everywhere on this back roads, and no known history behind it [that you know of] so you can make up your own!

I hear it said in real estate circles location, location, location is everything! The view here in every direction was just down right majestic and thinking back to it's heyday had to be the perfect spot. I would have imagined it was a hang out!

Good plumbing too.

Who walked through these doors? What did they sell, ..... ?

Who, what, Where, why, When?

Who or What occupied the upstairs?

Don't know, this leaves me with questions I might get answers for another time.
in the mean time, it's time to UN-hitch my steed and head back out the road!

To Cumberland!

"A Tale of Two Churches"! All over the mountains of the east, history is found around every corner. I have traveled two roads countless times in a cage, and passed by these two places more time than I can imagine, and never given them much thought! South bound on 522 just north of Winchester about 1/2 mile north on the 127 turnoff, stands this little church visible from the road on a dirt road. It's sign titles it as "Mount Hebro EUB Church - Welcome". From my research it is the "Evangelical United Brethren" Church organization. Like many structures around these parts it looks weather worn, and possibly older than it may look. Here's a brief tour.

facing the challenges of the day, most non-profits have fallen on challenging times, and well maintained as best as possible.

I know some of the last generation of country churches always have grave yards next to them. Careful investigation can give reference to the age of the church. This one though it may be old the grave markers don't appear to be that old, and out of respect and the size of the fence I choose not to look to closely with out permission.

As I said most of the markers do not appear to be all that old. There may have been some, but I could not see them.

As you can see in this picture the church is on the north bound side of 522 heading towards Berkley Springs.

pretty settings just around the bend.

[ lower right hand corner is not a fresh pile of dirt ..... fertilizer ]

Wish I could have seen this one from the inside.

more later....

We went for a ride, broke down for a bit.
Got the bike started again and came home.

$45 later I am the owner of a new battery.

Yes, eventually.
LC4 is not a bike that starts well with a dead battery.

When it's dead like this (bad cell) you can't normally even kick start them.

Took quite a few tries to push start it. When it did I tossed the seat back on, loaded up and pointed it to the house.

With the new battery it's fine now, 2 batteries in 12 years ain't bad.

The Dirty Mountains of the East

With rain threatening the wife and I got an early (noon) start to go for a little ride.
Wife starts a little later than I do, I was ready at 9
Rain started hitting my helmet about a half mile from home, but I could see clear sky ahead so I continued on.
The skies cleared for the most part and it was a nice day.

Went south thru Parsons to fuel up the beast and then headed across the Douglas Rd.
Lots of rain yesterday, there are some pretty good mud holes in spots here but I can dodge them or plow thru.

This is a nice little campsite a couple miles in.

With this stream running by it, this is where the Blackwater River gets it's color and name.

Road is a little damp.

A few flowers along the road.

"Why do I have to wear all this stuff?"

I tried to take some pictures of the river that we could see (and hear) from the road, but couldn't get a good shot between the trees.

Blackwater Falls was flowing about 2000 cf/s which is a lot of water.

Went to see what the Canaan Loop Road looked like, it was about like I figured. Wet.
This is the first creek crossing, I'm guessing the far side was 3-4 feet deep.

We then hopped back onto 219 and dropped down Leadmine Run into Horseshoe, then back to Rt 72 to home.
Due to careful planning on my part we were able to ride thru several rain showers over the next 20 miles.
This washed most of the mud off of the bike, so I didn't have to do it when I got home.
